Behling.
PESQUISA NO ESTADO
“Today, eucalyptus forestry in Mato Grosso is based on
three materials - the H13, the VM0, and the I144. Others do
well in a certain region, but these three are the ones that
grow well in all regions. So, there is a very high risk that these
other materials may be susceptible to losses if there is a pest
or disease. So, the focus of the work is to increase the range of
material options to minimize risks,” explains Maurel Behling,
IN STATE RESEARCH
The experiments are to be carried out in five regions of
Mato Grosso, and the clones tested in plots with 100 plants
(10×10). The extended clonal tests (TCA) will be conducted by
Embrapa and companies associated with Arefloresta. “The
idea is to plant in representative places where eucalyptus will
be grown in Mato Grosso. These are usually marginal areas for
agriculture and, generally, have sandier soil,” Behling explains.
There will also be a trial for monitoring and preservation
of genetic materials in the Embrapa Agrosilvopastoril experimental
area, where the soil is of medium texture and clayey.
