If you searchfor it in Wikipedia, you will find allsorts of different versions of how tocelebrate it. It’s the more degenerateversion that is of interest to us thistime around.Valborg in the student city ofUppsala has come to be a day ofgrand celebrations, one visited bypeople from all over the world. Thatis, by all your guests!There are several events beforeValborg day, but these vary fromnation to nation, from studentorganisation to student organisation.On Valborg day there seems to be acertain pattern to how you go aboutthe day.You start the day with champagnebreakfast by the river, or if the riverbank is too crowded,just pick a park.There you have, of course, champagneand strawberries. Already at this pointI would like to recommend that youhave a nice sturdy breakfast instead(or on top) of that.You then continue the celebrationby having the traditional sillunch,lunch with herring marinated invarious sauces. You usually enjoyherring with sour crème, red onion,chives and Swedish crispbread.Now to the main act: at exactly15.00 the universitys’ Chancellor willbe holding a speech from the balconyof the Carolina Rediviva library. Thatis usually pact with people but it stillfun! Directly after that you have whatis called a gallop to the nations. Thereyou will be able to shower and beshowered with champagne within thenation gardens. This particular partof the day is the most sought after,so you should be prepared that therewill be queues, very long ones, andthat those will probably start formingquite early. However, none of thenations would like to encourage thisbehavior.The gallop is over around 17:00and that is where you really need toget some rest! There will be partiesduring the evening as well, but sincethese vary you will have to check withwww.nationsguiden.se to see whichnations are open. I would recommenda healthy dinner and a few hours ofsleep before attempting to ventureout again.price will be higher. This means thatyou should plan a while in advanceif you would like to secure one foryour potential guests. The guest cardsare already being sold, and they cost200kr per person. You can issuethem for your friends by providing anational id and a student card. Copiesof both are accepted if they are ingood shape. You buy them at the KKguestcard office (in the student unionhouse), and you can find their openinghours at www.kuratorskonventet.seThere are two things that you reallyneed to be careful about Valborg: noone without a guestcard or uppsalastudent card will be able to enter thenations; and the climate in the city willbe rather tense due to the overload ofoverly drunk people, so do not try tobring in alcohol, to smuggle peoplein, to haggle with the guards and soon. Valborg is a special occasion forall.Lets make this year Valborgan unforgetably fun event for thewhole city!
