LEVEL AND AN ANALYSIS OF TEACHERS’ VIEWS ABOUT SCIENTIFIC<br />

This study investigates the relationship between the scientific literacy and<br />

achievement at science and technology lesson for the 7th and 8th grade students who<br />

are at the second level of primary education and also it analyses science and technology<br />

teachers’ views on science literacy. 1780 7th and 8th grade students participated in this<br />

study which has been conducted by descriptive research model. Science and technology<br />

success test for the 7th and 8th graders developed by the researcher has been used.<br />

Besides, scientific literacy scale developed by Keskin (2008) and the questionnaire by<br />

Dindar and Yangın (2007) have been used.<br />

In this study, personal information forms according to the students’ demographic<br />

report (gender, classroom level, parents’ educational level, monthly income of the<br />

family, the duration of benefiting from a course, benefiting from science and technology<br />

materials) has been prepared, the relations of FTBT and BOÖ to these dimensions have<br />

been investigated. Following the pilot application of the test and scales used in the<br />

study, FTBT and BOÖ was applied to the students and science literacy questionnaire<br />

was applied to the teachers during 2010-2011 academic year.<br />

In line with the results derived from BOÖ and FTBT meaningful differences has<br />

been found out in terms of many demographic characteristics. A meaningful<br />

relationship between BOÖ and FTBT has been reached.<br />
