ENSILING POSSIBILITIES OF SOME CEREAL FODDER PLANTS WITH
BROILER LITTER

This research was carried out to investigate nutrient contents and silage quality of Wheat,
Barley, Triticale and SorghumXSudan Grass ensiled with broiler litter. Broiler litter was
mixed into silage plants in dry matter basis; 0 %, 10 %, 20 %, 30 %, 40 % and ensiled
homogeny as three repeat into glass jars which have 1 kg volume. Every group has 3 repeat
and ensiled 75 days. After 75 day time nutrient contents of silages was analyzed and physical
characteristics of silages was determined. According to mixed level broiler litter with cereal
plants after ensiling in Wheat silage dry matter was increased to 47.40 % from 34.89; Barley
silage dry matter was increased to 47.86 % from 37.96 %; Triticale silage dry matter was
increased to 47.64 % from 35.46 %; SorgumXSudan Grass silage dry matter was increased
to 30.03 % from 22.16 %. Nutrient contents of cereal plants was effected positively with
ensiling. Dry matter, crude protein and crude ash content of silages were increased by adding
broiler litter. A physical characteristic of silages wasn’t affected negatively by adding broiler
litter. In this thesis, it is determined that broiler litter could be mixed with Wheat, Barley,
Triticale and SorghumXSudan Grass in appropriate level and ensiled. So, litter material,
which is never used in animal feeding, can be useful in this way.
