We are en route to Dubai
The busy exhibition calendar in December and January will continue
in April and beyond. Domotex, which decided to hold its Middle East
fair in Dubai, returned to its old location after 13 years. The intensity
that will start with this fair will continue with the CFE Gaziantep fair. As
Decor Magazine, we will be at the Domotex asia/Chinafloor fair, which
will be held on the same dates as CFE Gaziantep.
This year, there are carpet and decoration fairs located in different
geographies or organized in different ways. These fairs increase the
business volume in different countries and regions. In this way, it also
changes the profile of visitors and exhibitors. In particular, countries
such as Iran and Uzbekistan, which are located in the nearby region,
take part in the fairs more both as exhibitors and visitors. How this
will reflect on Turkiye, which is the leader of the sector, is a matter of
curiosity.
dinliyoruz.
Biraz kendinizden bahseder misiniz?
1989 yılında İstanbul’da doğdum. Çocukluk
yaşlarımdan beri tasarımla ilgileniyorum. İlk olarak
karakalem resimler çizmeye başladım. Sonrasında
yağlıboya ile devam ettim ve halen yapmaktayım.
Üniversite öncesi çalışmalarım yoğunlaştı ve güzel
sanatlar fakültesine hazırlanmaya karar verdim.
Işık Üniversitesi Güzel Sanatlar Fakültesi Moda ve
Tekstil Tasarımı Bölümü’nü 100% başarı bursu ile
kazandım. İkinci yılımda Halı tasarımı ile tanıştım.
Halılara olan ilgim o zamandan beri artarak devam
etti ve benim için bir tutkuya dönüştü. Erkenden
deneyim kazanmak İçin üniversite ile birlikte uzun
zaman freelance halı tasarımları yaptım. Birçok
firmayla çalışma fırsatım oldu. Halı sektörüne 2013
yılından itibaren profesyonel olarak atıldım. Dokuma
etmekteyim.
Konuk Tasarımcı
Bunu deneyimleyerek zaman içerisinde minimalist
bir tasarım anlayışı benimsedim. Şimdilerde www.
esraaktuccar.com web sayfasında da tasarımlarımı
güncel olarak paylaşmaya devam ediyorum.
Geçmişten bugüne sizi etkileyen tasarımcılar
ya da kişiler kimlerdir?
Empresyonizm akımının öncüsü Claude Monet ve
tasarım teorisyeni, mimar Christopher Alexander
bana her zaman ilham olmuştur. İlham almak için
güncel sanat sergilerini de takip ederim.
Halı sizin için ne ifade ediyor?
Estetik anlayışı yüksek olan, eşyalara hikayeler
yazan ve o hikayelerle büyülü anlar yaşayan,
maneviyatı yüksek bir aile ile büyüdüm. Onlarla
önemli olanın eşyanın kendisi değil bıraktığı iz
olduğunu öğrendim. Anları unutulmaz kılan da
buydu. Halıların üzerine dizilip aile büyüklerinin
hikayelerini dinlerdik.
kurdum. Gözlemlediğim şey, tasarım ve Ar-
Ge’nin eksikliği oldu. İş yoğunluğu, hem marka
sahiplerini hem de tasarımcıları oldukça kısıtlıyor.
Ancak özgün tasarımlar da beslenmeden ortaya
çıkmıyor. Bu yüzden tasarımcıların sabit çalışma
sisteminden sıklıkla çıkıp, dünyadaki farklı sanat
aktivitelerini görmesi gerektiğini düşünüyorum.
Bu zaman yetmezliğinin içinde zaten başarılı olan
tasarımcıların daha çok alanları olsa, Gaziantep’in
sadece üretim şehri değil bir sanat şehri
olacağından şüphem yok.
Tasarlamayı en sevdiğiniz şey nedir?
Halı, konfor ya da görsel cazibe oluşturmanın
ötesinde kullanıcıların deneyimlediği duygusal bir
yolculuğu başlatma gücüne de sahiptir. Bu sebeple
halı tasarlamayı çok seviyorum. 2500 yılı aşkın
süredir insanların çeşitli motiflerle halıyı bir ifade
aracı olarak kullanması beni çok etkiliyor. Mies
van der Rohe’un “Less is more” “Az çoktur” sözü
her tasarım başlangıcında kendime hatırlattığım
bir sözüdür. Bir tasarımın süslemelerden uzak,
yalın, işleve odaklı olması ve tasarımcının estetik
dürtüsüyle birleşerek herhangi bir ortama adapte
olabilmesi o tasarımın nefes aldığı, hayat bulduğu
anlamına gelir.
Guest Designer
“For me, a carpet
is what makes a
household habitable
even without any
other object.”
Esra Aktüccar is our guest in this issue with a
design life that extends from charcoal to carpet.
the designer started designing carpets during
her university years. Later on, this turned into
a passion for her. She has worked with many
brands and designers in Gaziantep, the heart of
the carpet industry, and has been thinking about
the shortcomings of branding in addition to carpet
production. We listen to her story from Esra
Aktüccar’s mouth.
Can you tell me about yourself?
I was born in 1989 in Istanbul. I have been interested
in design since my childhood. I first started to draw
pencil drawings. Then I continued with oil painting
and I am still doing it. My pre-university studies
intensified and I decided to prepare for the faculty of
fine arts. I won Işık University Faculty of Fine Arts,
Department of Fashion and Textile Design with a
100% success scholarship. In my second year, I met
carpet design. My interest in carpets has continued
to increase since then. and it turned into a passion
for me. I did freelance carpet designs for a long time
with the university to gain early experience. I had
the opportunity to work with many companies. I have
Guest Designer
been working professionally in the carpet industry
since 2013. I have mastered all the techniques of
weaving and printing carpets. I know the yarn very
well and I do not limit myself to weaving programs.
I have experienced many different design programs
in carpet design. In short, I transitioned to a period
where I produced design in every aspect. And I still
continue my design and styling works in different
areas of both carpet and textile.
What does carpet mean to you?
I grew up in a family with a high sense of aesthetics,
who wrote stories on things and lived magical
moments with those stories. I learned from them
that what matters is not the object itself, but the
trace it leaves. That’s what made the moments
unforgettable. We used to line up on the carpets
and listen to the stories of the elders of the family.
Washing the carpets together and writing stories on
the motifs on the carpets was the best fun as a child.
Today, I experience the same feelings mostly while
designing carpets. For me, a carpet is what makes a
household livable even without any other object.
What is your favorite thing to design?
Beyond creating comfort or visual appeal, carpets
have the power to initiate an emotional journey that
users experience. For this reason, I love designing
carpets. I am fascinated by the fact that people
have been using carpets as a means of expression
with various motifs for about 2500 years. Mies van
der Rohe’s “Less is more” is a quote that I remind
myself at the beginning of every design. The fact
that a design is free from ornaments, simple,
function-oriented and can adapt to any environment
by combining with the designer’s aesthetic impulse
means that the design breathes and comes to life.
By experiencing this, I adopted a minimalist design
approach over time. Nowadays, I continue to share
my designs on the website www.esraaktuccar.com.
Who are the designers or people who have
influenced you from past to present?
Claude Monet, the pioneer of the Impressionism
movement, and design theorist and architect
Christopher Alexander have always inspired me.
I also follow contemporary art exhibitions for
inspiration.
What do you think both designers and brand
owners should do to make carpets more prominent
and part of the decoration?
Gaziantep is the heart of machine made carpet
production and a city full of inspiration. I have
worked with many brands and successful designers
until today. I have learned a lot by producing
joint projects with them. I have established good
friendships. What I have observed is the lack of
design and R&D. The workload limits both brand
owners and designers. However, original designs
do not emerge without nurturing. That’s why I think
designers should get out of the fixed working system
frequently and see different art activities around
the world. I have no doubt that Gaziantep would be
not only a city of production but also a city of art if
designers, who are already successful in this lack of
time, had more space.
Arora Rug ile makine halıları
el halısına dönüşüyor
Arora Rug, makine halısını el halısı gibi üreterek
halıya farklı bir bakış açısı getiriyor. Markanın
kurucusu Sinan Şahinkaya, “’Makinada dokunan
halıları el halısına çevirme tekniğini dünyada ilk
defa ben icat ettim.
defa ben icat ettim.
geleneksel desenler bulunuyor.
Hangi ülke ve bölgelere ihracat yapıyorsunuz?
Ürünlerimizin %75’ini ihraç ediyoruz. Fransa başta
olmak üzere Amerika, İngiltere, Hindistan, Almanya,
Rusya, Mısır, Ürdün, Suudi Arabistan gibi ülkelere
ihracat yapıyoruz.
Arora Rug olarak yeni hedefleriniz neler?
Sinan Şahinkaya olarak, 75 yıllık ömrümün 47 yılını
halı sektöründe geçirdim ve geçirmeye devam
ediyorum. Yüzbinlerce adet, dünyanın her yöresinde
ardından Domotex’in bütün fuarlarına katılacağız.
Bu şekilde markamızı halıcılığa gönül veren birisi
olarak yukarılara taşımak için çalışmalarımıza devam
ediyoruz. Dünyada el halısı üreten herkesi tanırım;
onlar da beni tanır. Birçok fabrikaya desen açısından
katkılarımız olmuştur.
Sinan Şahinkaya
Aynı zamanda üretimde de geliştirdiğimiz markalar
oldu. Türkiye’deki makine halısı üreten markaların
el halısı geçmişi olmadığından dolayı kendilerine bu
konuda yardımcı olmayı görev edindik. Çünkü halı beni
ayakta tutan, hayata bağlayan, ticaretin ötesinde hobi
olarak zevkle yaptığım bir uğraş. Şimdiden 2025 yılının
trend halılarının çalışmalarını heyecanla yapıyorum.
Son olarak neler eklemek istersiniz?
Türkiye halı sektöründe çok iyi duruma geldi. Ancak
İran, klasik halı üretiminde Türkiye’yi sollamak üzere
diyebilirim.
Machine-made carpets turn into
hand-made carpets with Arora Rug
Arora Rug brings a different perspective to carpet by
producing machine-made carpets like hand-made
carpets. Sinan Şahinkaya, the founder of the brand,
said, “I was the first in the world to invent machinemade
carpets like hand-made carpets. “Some
companies in Gaziantep saw the opportunity in
these new model carpets, expanded their business
and started producing them,” he says, expressing
how this type of carpets entered the sector. Stating
that they even export to a large carpet production
country like India, Şahinkaya gave information about
the new collections they produced for 2024 and their
features.
How did you meet carpet?
I have been in the carpet business since 1976.
I settled in France in 1980. There, I started working
with a wholesaler and started learning carpet.
In 1985, I started making world carpets such as
Turkish, Pakistani, Iranian, Chinese and Indian
carpets with my own company. Later, I left the brand
in France to my children, and it still continues to
operate as the largest brand in France in its sector
as a wholesaler.
Were there any brands that made this type of
carpets before?
I was the first in the world to invent machine-made
carpets like hand-made carpets. I washed the
bamboo carpets I bought from a Belgian company
and turned them into handmade carpets. Some
companies in Gaziantep saw the opportunity in these
new model carpets, expanded their business and
started producing them.
So, when was Arora Rug founded?
Arora was founded in 2005. In the beginning, we
were doing tourism business. Later, we continued to
do the carpet business as we know it with the team
of 130 people I established in Izmir.
30 DECOR • Mart - Nisan 2024
We would first wash the carpets by machine, then
shave them and attach the fringes by hand. We still
continue these works in our 2500 m 2 warehouse in
Izmir. We currently have 50-60 thousand square
meters of stock in our warehouses. We have our
carpets produced as a subcontractor in Gaziantep.
In addition to 100 and 120 comb carpets, we have
150 comb carpets produced in Iran and we do the
final touches ourselves in Turkiye.
What are your new collections that you exhibited
at the Istanbul fair?
We exhibited the Aryana and Abstract collections
at this fair. We replaced classical machine-made
carpets with our experience in hand-made carpet
production. In these collections, we reinterpreted
the carpets using traditional patterns and motifs.
Additionally, the motifs include traditional patterns
used in Afghanistan and Central Asia.
Which countries and regions do you export to?
We export 75% of our products. We send our
products to England, Russia, Egypt, America,
Germany, Jordan, Saudi Arabian and India,
especially France.
What are your new goals?
We are an assertive brand in the upper segment.
We participate in all fairs of the world. We started
this year with CFE Istanbul and then we will attend
all Domotex fairs. In this way, we continue our
efforts to move our brand higher as someone
who is passionate about carpet weaving. I know
everyone in the world who produces handmade
carpets; they know me too. We have contributed
to many factories in terms of patterns. At the
same time, there were brands that we developed
in production. Since the brands that produce
machine-made carpets in Turkey do not have a
history of hand-made carpets, we took it upon
ourselves to help them in this regard. Because
carpet is life for me and what keeps me alive.
Finally, what would you like to add?
Türkiye has progressed well in the carpet industry.
However, I can say that Iran is about to overtake
Türkiye in classical carpet production. However,
no one can beat Türkiye’s success in other carpet
production. The reason for this is that we have
acquired both eastern and western cultures
and have become enriched between these two
cultures.
Internationality, Sustainability and
Networking underscore Domotex
as the Home of Flooring
Domotex 2024, the world’s leading trade fair for carpets and floor coverings, ends today
after four impressive days full of innovation, inspiration and networking. From 11 to
14 January 2024, around 1,000 exhibitors from 60 countries came to Hannover to kickw off
a promising business year and showcase their innovations to visitors.
Domotex once again proved to be the most important
and powerful driving force for business, trends and
innovations in the industry. “ Domotex is not only the
global meeting place for the industry, but also the
home of the entire carpet and flooring world, thanks
to its positive energy and its distinctly international
character,” says Sonia Wedell-Castellano, Global
Director of Domotex. During the four days of the show,
about 18,000 visitors from 140 countries, met with
around 1,000 exhibitors from more than 60 nations.
“We are delighted that decision-makers from even
more countries than before are coming to Hannover
to learn about the latest trends and new products
– including 170 debuts – and to make new business
connections”, continues Wedell-Castellano. 71 % of
visitors come from abroad – 65 % from Europe, 18
% from Asia, 9 % from America, 4 % from the Middle
East and the rest from Africa and Australia.
Visitors come to Domotex to find out where the
industry’s heading
Oliver Ginestier, Director of Communications at
the European DIY Retail Association (EDRA), was
delighted to “see the world of flooring meeting again
in a vibrant atmosphere”. At this year’s show, he was
able to meet many of the suppliers attending the
association’s Global DIY Summit, as well as many of
the association’s members. Martin Geiger, Managing
Director of GEIGER, has been attending the world’s
leading show for many years to get an overview
of the market at the start of the business year. “I
was particularly impressed by the increase in the
number of exhibitors – in its second year after the
pandemic, the show has already grown significantly
again. This underlines the importance of Domotex
for our industry.” Jamie Metrick, President and
Chief Product Officer of the Toronto-based interior
design company Elte appreciates the comprehensive
market overview and adds: “Here at Domotex, I can
meet important global business partners, easily
discover potential suppliers and find out about the
latest trends and developments in the industry”.
Carpets & Rugs and Flooring exhibitors delighted
with high level of internationality & visitor quality
Domotex offers the perfect opportunity to introduce
new products to a global audience, says Theresa
Paulig, Shareholder and Executive Partner of Paulig.
“It is difficult to present our entire range of products
internationally by travelling alone. At Domotex,
we can display the entire range of innovations to
our existing customers in a short amount of time,
deepen our relationships and make contacts with
new customers from all over the world. This is what
makes Domotex unique for us.” “Our main reason
for exhibiting at Domotex was to give our exports a
boost – especially in Germany, the UK and Eastern-
Europe. The first and second day were already
excellent for us and we are happy about our decision
to participate. We are pleased with the number,
quality and internationality of the Domotex visitors,”
reports Cathérine Vandepoel, Export Manager at
Floorify. Markus Oberbauer, Managing Director of
Kronoflooring GmbH, was also delighted with the
large number of customers: “Domotex 2024 was a
great success for us. We are very satisfied. All of our
major customers were here, and the international
participation was particularly high. In total, we
welcomed around 500 different customer groups to
our stand who were interested in our innovations
and our new logistics concept.”
Domotex goes vertical
Products for walls and ceilings were presented
for the first time in the new RETAILERS’ PARK in
Hall 19/20. “All of our visitors – from retailers to
craftsmen and architects – have to consider spaces
as a whole to create a coherent interior design.
That’s why we’ve teamed up with DECOR UNION
and the MEGA Gruppe to include paints, varnishes,
wallpapers and more interior finishing and the
premiere has already been a great success. The
new special area for interior finishes, which is being
organized in collaboration with DECOR UNION and
MEGA, offers a genuine value for the trade and craft
sector”, explains Wedell-Castellano. One in three
participants is already specifically interested in the
new special show as the visitor survey reveals. This
is why the global director of Domotex can imagine
expanding the show’s portfolio to include more
products for interior finishing in the future.
Domotex is worth a visit
This year’s edition of Domotex offered all
participants inspiring special displays, a diverse
supporting program with conferences, live
presentations and award ceremonies as well as
numerous opportunities for networking. The trade
fair once again focused on the megatrends of
sustainability and circular economy. Visitors were
able to experience the keynote theme FLOORED BY
NATURE in particular at THE GREEN COLLECTION
in Hall 23. In its second year, the special display
once again offered extraordinary presentations of
sustainable and environmentally friendly products,
a tactile presentation of sustainable materials by
raumprobe | Materialbank and the latest research
projects from the German Research Institute for
Floor Systems (TFI) Aachen. The sustainable focus
was also reflected in the exhibitors’ product ranges.
At Domotex on Stage in Hall 23, speakers from the
fields of architecture, interior design, the skilled
trades, politics, associations, trade and trend scouts
presented the latest market developments and trend
topics. Other topics included the shortage of skilled
workers and workplace culture. The conference
program was complemented by the forums in the
RETAILERS’ PARK, the Mood Spaces and the Carpet
Design Awards.
“This is my first time at Domotex and I’m really
impressed. The Mood Spaces offer a lot of
inspiration for my everyday work,” reveals Sophie
Berger, interior designer at Rostock-based
architecture office MZ Architektur Meier + Zeug. The
trade fair also allows her to think “outside the box”
and become familiar with new flooring solutions and
suppliers in a short amount of time. Merle Queisner,
architect at Bünenmann & Collegen, emphasizes the
value of a live event:
“Here at Domotex, I don’t just get detailed
information about carpets and floor coverings. I
can also experience the quality of the products first
hand. I can take a close look, touch and feel the
surface. That’s simply not possible digitally.” The
next Domotex Carpets & Rugs in Hannover will take
place from 16 to 19 January 2025.
Countries Strategy coordinated by our Ministry
of Trade are countries with which we have good
bilateral relations from past to present. In this
context, we organized a trade delegation visit to
Mauritania and Senegal together with our exporter
companies. Our meetings were very efficient. As the
Turkish Exporters Assembly, which celebrates its
30th anniversary this year, we lead the creation of
macro and sectoral export strategies and prepare
our exporters for the coming years. Accordingly, our
trade with both countries we visited is increasing day
by day and we are getting good results in exports. As
a result of our new meetings, we think this will be
going to further in the upcoming period,” he said.
The potential of Turkish producers will be realised
Exporters’ Association continues to carry out its
While the African geography promises a productive
trade environment in terms of target export
markets, Güleç, speaking on the trade delegation
organisation, said, “Mauritania and Senegal are
among the most important countries of the African
continent. Our commercial activities for the region
are increasing day by day. We exported 637 million
dollars to Senegal in 2022 and 208 million dollars
to Mauritania. Both countries love Turkish products
and approach us warmly. As the furniture, paper
and forestry products industry, we have held various
negotiations in order to get more place in the
market, and we expect to receive the results of these
negotiations in a positive way in 2024. Senegal and
Mauritania are countries that attract attention with
their geographical location and port opportunities.
When we look at this side of the business, it is also
possible to be an important cooperation centre in
our trade towards the region. In addition, the fact
that Turkish Airlines has reciprocal passenger and
cargo flights to Dakar is one of the factors that
will facilitate our logistics to the region. We expect
our exports to the region through Senegal and
Mauritania to expand in terms of capacity in the
coming period and we are carrying out intensive
activities to achieve this. We would like to thank
“Heimtextil büyük bir katılımla sona erdi. Messe
standartlar
Karar vericilerle yeni bağlantılar, küresel iş
fırsatları ve dünya çapında ziyaretçi akışı: Heimtextil
2024, yaklaşık 130 ülkeden 46.000 ziyaretçi[1] ve
60 ülkeden 2.838 katılımcı ile yüzde 25 büyüme
ile sona erdi. Ziyaretçi sayısındaki artışla birlikte
fuar, ülke çapındaki demiryolu grevleri ve bölgesel
gösteriler nedeniyle zorlu seyahat koşullarının
üstesinden geldi. Uluslararası alıcıların yeni Halı
ve Kilim ürün segmentinin kalitesi ve çeşitliliğine
verdiği tepki çok büyük oldu. Heimtextil, çok sayıda
konuşma, tur ve atölye çalışmasında önümüzdeki
on yılların en önemli iki ana konusuna da odaklandı:
sürdürülebilir üretim & eylem ile yapay zeka. Ev ve
kontrat tekstilleri için önde gelen ticaret fuarında,
dönüşümler her zamankinden daha yoğun bir
şekilde deneyimlenebildi.
Kıtalararası gücü ile Heimtextil 2024, Messe
Frankfurt için rekor bir yılın temelini attı. Yaklaşık
130 ülkeden 46.000 alıcı, döşemelik ve dekoratif
kumaşlar, yatak ve banyo tekstilleri, şilteler,
fonksiyonel tekstiller ve halılardan duvar kağıtları,
dış mekân kumaşları, suni deri, perdeler, elyaflar,
iplikler, uyku sistemleri ve dekoratif yastıklara
kadar küresel tekstil pazarına katılma fırsatı buldu.
Ülke çapındaki demiryolu grevlerine rağmen, bu
fuarda ziyaretçi sayısında artış kaydedildi ve 60
ülkeden 2.838 katılımcı ile bir önceki yıla kıyasla
katılımcı sayısında yüzde 25’lik bir artış sağlandı:
Fuara katılım ulusal ve uluslararası
düzeyde artıyor
Heimtextil, katılımcı tarafındaki uluslararasılık
seviyesini yüzde 95’e yükseltmeyi başardı. İlk on
katılımcı ülke Çin, Hindistan, Türkiye, Pakistan,
İtalya, Almanya, İspanya, Portekiz, İngiltere ve
Hollanda oldu. Belçika, Bulgaristan, Çin, Hindistan,
Japonya, Polonya, İsveç, Çek Cumhuriyeti, ABD ve
Mısır’dan katılımcı sayısında artış oldu. Ziyaretçi
tarafında ise Çin, Almanya, Hindistan, Japonya,
Hırvatistan, Makedonya, Pakistan, Slovakya ve
Kıbrıs’tan daha fazla ziyaretçi geldi. Alman ticari
ziyaretçilerin sayısı yaklaşık yüzde on oranında
artmıştır.
Memnuniyet ve ziyaretçi kalitesinde önemli artış
2024 yılında ziyaretçi memnuniyeti hem ulusal
hem de uluslararası düzeyde ortalama yüzde 93’e
yükselmiştir - özellikle de sunulan imkanların
genişliği ve derinliği konusunda. Alman ticari
Katılımcıların yaklaşık yüzde 80’i ticari
Frankfurt ikna edici oldu” Mısırlı Oriental Weavers
“Yeni konsept bizi tamamen ikna etti. Salon
Her halükarda, 2025’te
Heimtextil’in merkezinde yer almamış ve temel
getirdi. Ana temas noktalarından biri Heimtextil
Trends with New Sensitivity idi: Konsept, tekstil
sundu. Örneklerden biri, kendi geliştirdiği renk
pigmentleri ile oda sıcaklığında boyamaya olanak
sağlayan Ever Dye şirketiydi.Öte yandan Variant
3D, desen oluşturmadan abajur gibi karmaşık
şekilleri bile üretmek için kullanılabilen yapay zeka
güdümlü örgü yazılımı sunuyor. Econogy programı,
Finder, Talks, Tours ve Econogy Hub ile döngüsel
yaklaşımların tüm çok yönlülüğünü, sertifikaların
uygunluğunu ve tekstil malzemeleri için olası
uygulamaları gösteren daha fazla merkezi içerik
formatı sundu. Finder’da listelenen katılımcılar,
sürdürülebilirliğin bütünsel deneyimine katkıda
bulundu: “Çok sayıda müşteriyle tanıştık ve
Heimtextil 2024’ten çok memnunuz. Neredeyse tüm
önemli iş ortaklarımız burada. Sürdürülebilirlik
gözle görülür şekilde değişen bir konu. İnsanlar
eskiden geri dönüşümden bahsediyordu, ancak
bugün yenilenebilir enerjilerden süreçlerin
derinliklerine, ham maddelere ve işleme
yöntemlerine kadar uzanan bütünsel bir yaklaşım
olarak ele alınıyor,” dedi.
“Heimtextil 2024’te DecoTeam’in bir parçası
olarak yeni koleksiyonlarımızı göz alıcı bir şekilde
sunabildik. Sürdürülebilirlik Alfred Apelt GmbH
için önemli bir rol oynamaktadır. Heimtextil’deki
Econogy Finder’da sürdürülebilir ürünlerin
tedarikçisi olarak listelenmiş olmaktan büyük
mutluluk duyuyoruz,” diyor Alfred Apelt GmbH Satış
Müdürü ve İş Geliştirme Sebastian Ihling.
2025’e Bakış: Studio Urquiola ile ortaklık
duyuruldu
Heimtextil ends
with an increase in
exhibitors, a plus
in visitors and sets
new standards for
a sustainable and
AI-driven textile
industry
New contacts with decision-makers, global
business opportunities and worldwide streams
of visitors: Heimtextil 2024 ended with 46,000
visitors[1] from around 130 nations and 2,838
exhibitors from 60 nations with 25 per cent growth.
With a plus in visitors, the show overcame difficult
travel conditions due to nationwide rail strikes
and regional demonstrations. The response from
international buyers to the quality and variety of
the new Carpets & Rugs product segment was
overwhelming. In numerous talks, tours and
workshops, Heimtextil as well focused on two
of the most important key topics of the coming
decades: sustainable production and action as well
as artificial intelligence. At the leading trade fair for
home and contract textiles, transformations could
be experienced more intensively than ever before.
With intercontinental strength, Heimtextil 2024
laid the foundation for a record year for Messe
Frankfurt. 46,000 buyers from around 130 nations
took the opportunity to participate in the global
textile market - from upholstery and decorative
fabrics, bed and bathroom textiles, mattresses,
functional textiles and carpets to wallpapers,
outdoor fabrics, artificial leather, curtains, fibres,
yarns, sleeping systems and decorative cushions.
Despite nationwide rail strikes, this edition recorded
a plus in visitor numbers and, with 2,838 exhibitors
from 60 nations, a 25 per cent increase in exhibitor
numbers compared to the previous year’s event:
“Heimtextil ends with overwhelming participation.
The increase in space, exhibitors and visitors in 2024
makes the following clear: the leading trade fair for
home and contract textiles remains on course for
growth - and sets new standards for a sustainable
and AI-driven textile industry”, says Detlef Braun,
Member of the Executive Board of Messe Frankfurt.
Outstanding intercontinentality: participation
grows nationally and internationally
Heimtextil achieved an increase in the level of
internationality on the exhibitor side to 95 per cent.
The top ten exhibiting countries were China, India,
Turkey, Pakistan, Italy, Germany, Spain, Portugal,
Great Britain and the Netherlands. There was an
increase in the exhibitor numbers from Belgium,
Bulgaria, China, India, Japan, Poland, Sweden, the
Czech Republic, the USA and Egypt. On the visitor
side, more visitors came from China, Germany,
India, Japan, Croatia, Macedonia, Pakistan, Slovakia
and Cyprus. The number of German trade visitors
increased by around ten per cent.
Significant increase in satisfaction and visitor
quality
In 2024, visitor satisfaction rose to an average of
93 per cent both nationally and internationally
- particularly with the breadth and depth of the
offering. Among German trade visitors, overall
satisfaction rose by seven percentage points
to 88 per cent. Over 90 per cent of all visitors
achieved their trade fair goals. Exhibitors were
also impressed by the increased visitor quality and
buying competence: the proportion of top decisionmakers
among buyers rose by six percentage points
to 78 per cent. Around 80 per cent of exhibitors
achieved their trade fair goals.
Brilliant start for new Carpets & Rugs
product segment
The launch of the new Carpets & Rugs segment was
a complete success. For the first time, the global
carpet industry presented together in one hall,
including numerous international market leaders
who exhibited in Frankfurt for the first time or after
a long time - with overwhelming satisfaction:
“For our debut here in Frankfurt, we deliberately
presented our entire collection, which turned
out to be the right strategy. The stand was well
attended throughout and we made many new global
contacts - from Europe to overseas, from Asia to
Scandinavia,” says Katrien Vandenbroucke, CEO of
Ragolle Rugs, one of Belgium’s leading brands.
“We came back because we saw potential in the
new concept. And I have to say, we were more than
pleasantly surprised,” summarises Raghav Gupta,
Director of E-Commerce at the Indian company
The Rug Republic, which stands for high-quality
handmade rugs. The wish for a new joint appearance
came from the industry - and Frankfurt was
convincing. Exhibitors such as the Egyptian Oriental
Weavers Group are looking to the future:
“We are completely convinced by the new concept.
The hall has turned out beautifully from the very
start, a perfect platform for our industry. Now it’s
time to take it forward together. In any case, we
already know that we will be at Carpets & Rugs in
2025 - and with a significantly larger stand,” says
Ahmed El Gamal, Export Sales Manager of OWG
subsidiary Mac Carpet.
From AI in textile product design to scalable
sustainable solutions
Never before have transformations such as artificial
intelligence and sustainability been so intensively
at the center of Heimtextil and presented effective
levers for a future-oriented approach to key
technology. For the first time in 2024, the trade
fair provided fascinating insights into the textile
application of artificial intelligence and the use
of AI-controlled sorting to refine recycled textile
waste into new yarns. In the trend space, visitors’
textile design ideas were also brought to life at
interactive stations using tools such as ChatGPT-4
and Midjourney.
the other hand, offers AI-driven knitting software
that can be used to produce even complex shapes
such as lampshades without creating patterns.
The Econogy program offered further central
content formats, with Finder, Talks, Tours and the
Econogy Hub demonstrating all the versatility of
circular approaches, the relevance of certificates
and possible applications for textile materials. The
exhibitors listed in the Finder contributed to the
holistic experience of sustainability:
„We have met many customers and are very happy
with Heimtextil 2024. Almost all of our important
business partners are here. Sustainability is a topic
that is noticeably changing. People used to talk about
recycling, but today it is being taken up as a holistic
approach that extends from renewable energies
deep into the processes to the raw materials and
processing methods“, said Mevlut Baydar, Chief
Sales Officer (CSO), Vanelli Tekstil San.
“At Heimtextil 2024, we were able to present our
new collections in an eye-catching way as part of the
DecoTeam. Sustainability plays an important role
for the Alfred Apelt GmbH. We are delighted that we
were listed in the Econogy Finder at Heimtextil as
a supplier of sustainable products,” said Sebastian
Ihling, Sales Manager and Business Development at
Alfred Apelt GmbH.
Outlook for 2025: partnership with Studio
Urquiola announced
For 2025, Heimtextil is announcing a partnership
with one of the most important and influential
international design studios: Studio Urquiola.
A pioneering installation is planned for the upcoming
Heimtextil 2025, which will enable an immersive and
unique design experience. With this collaboration,
the Milan-based design studio and the leading trade
fair for home and contract textiles are emphasizing
their joint commitment to innovation, sustainability
and design in the entire textile industry. Heimtextil
will be held from 14 to 17 January 2025.
In addition, Heimtextil once again made stateof-the-art
sustainable production and action
tangible. One of the main points of contact were the
Heimtextil Trends with New Sensitivity: the concept
focused on the ongoing transformation of the textile
industry and presented numerous market-ready and
scalable solutions. One example was the company
Ever Dye, whose self-developed color pigments
enable dyeing at room temperature. Variant 3D, on
