Machine-made carpets turn into
hand-made carpets with Arora Rug
Arora Rug brings a different perspective to carpet by
producing machine-made carpets like hand-made
carpets. Sinan Şahinkaya, the founder of the brand,
said, “I was the first in the world to invent machinemade
carpets like hand-made carpets. “Some
companies in Gaziantep saw the opportunity in
these new model carpets, expanded their business
and started producing them,” he says, expressing
how this type of carpets entered the sector. Stating
that they even export to a large carpet production
country like India, Şahinkaya gave information about
the new collections they produced for 2024 and their
features.
How did you meet carpet?
I have been in the carpet business since 1976.
I settled in France in 1980. There, I started working
with a wholesaler and started learning carpet.
In 1985, I started making world carpets such as
Turkish, Pakistani, Iranian, Chinese and Indian
carpets with my own company. Later, I left the brand
in France to my children, and it still continues to
operate as the largest brand in France in its sector
as a wholesaler.
Were there any brands that made this type of
carpets before?
I was the first in the world to invent machine-made
carpets like hand-made carpets. I washed the
bamboo carpets I bought from a Belgian company
and turned them into handmade carpets. Some
companies in Gaziantep saw the opportunity in these
new model carpets, expanded their business and
started producing them.
So, when was Arora Rug founded?
Arora was founded in 2005. In the beginning, we
were doing tourism business. Later, we continued to
do the carpet business as we know it with the team
of 130 people I established in Izmir.
