Evolving trends in printing technology and the rise 

of inkjet innovation

As the D-Day approaches for the industry to flow to 

Dusseldorf, our heartbeats quickened. We are ready to 

see all new developments and technological wonders at 

drupa. 

As our lifestyles and modes of communication undergo 

transformation, it's only natural that the realm of 

print is evolving alongside. While some traditional 

print applications dwindle, others exhibit remarkable 

resilience, while entirely new application domains 

continue to emerge. 

Amidst these shifts, printing companies are strategically 

adjusting, diversifying their print offerings to cater to 

evolving brand promotion needs, content distribution 

strategies for publishers, and the desire of consumers to 

personalize their environments. This surge in demand 

encompasses various customer segments, particularly 

for small print runs and swift turnarounds. Leveraging a 

web presence facilitates the showcasing and promotion 

of new products, with the aid of recommendation 

algorithms, which are poised to evolve into AI-driven 

systems, aimed at upselling and cross-selling additional 

products. 

Perhaps most surprising is the central role inkjet 

technology plays in this landscape. Inkjet has played 

an egalitarian role in the printing equipment market, 

empowering suppliers to select and integrate inkjet 

heads, inks, drying systems, and substrate support from 

a vast array of providers. With over 20 inkjet head 

manufacturers and a plethora of ink producers, coupled 

with numerous substrate transport options, even older 

printing and finishing equipment can be repurposed to 

accommodate these advancements. Moreover, inkjet 

technology boasts inherent advantages, being a nonimpact 

process capable, theoretically, of printing on 

diverse substrates and shapes.

atışlarımız hızlandı. Tüm yeni gelişmeleri ve teknolojik 

harikaları drupa'da görmeye hazırız. 

Yaşam tarzlarımız ve iletişim biçimlerimiz dönüşüme 

uğrarken, baskı alanının da buna paralel olarak evrim 

geçirmesi son derece doğal. Bazı geleneksel baskı 

uygulamaları azalırken, diğerleri dikkate değer bir 

esneklik sergiliyor ve tamamen yeni uygulama alanları 

ortaya çıkmaya devam ediyor. 

Bu değişimlerin ortasında, baskı şirketleri stratejik olarak 

uyum sağlıyor ve gelişen marka tanıtım ihtiyaçlarını, 

yayıncılar için içerik dağıtım stratejilerini ve tüketicilerin 

ortamlarını kişiselleştirme arzusunu karşılamak için baskı 

tekliflerini çeşitlendiriyor. Talepteki bu artış, özellikle 

küçük baskı işleri ve hızlı geri dönüşler için çeşitli müşteri 

segmentlerini kapsıyor. Bir web varlığından yararlanmak, 

ek ürünlerin satışını ve çapraz satışını amaçlayan yapay 

zeka güdümlü sistemlere dönüşmeye hazırlanan öneri 

algoritmalarının yardımıyla yeni ürünlerin sergilenmesini 

ve tanıtılmasını kolaylaştırıyor. 

Belki de en şaşırtıcı olanı, inkjet teknolojisinin bu 

manzarada oynadığı merkezi roldür. Inkjet, baskı 

ekipmanı pazarında eşitlikçi bir rol oynamış ve 

tedarikçilerin çok çeşitli sağlayıcılardan inkjet kafaları, 

mürekkepler, kurutma sistemleri ve alt tabaka desteği 

seçip entegre etmelerini sağlamıştır. Yirmiden fazla inkjet 

kafa üreticisi ve çok sayıda mürekkep üreticisinin yanı sıra 

çok sayıda alt tabaka taşıma seçeneği sayesinde, eski 

baskı ve sonlandırma ekipmanları bile bu gelişmelere 

uyum sağlayacak şekilde yeniden tasarlanabiliyor. Dahası, 

inkjet teknolojisi, teorik olarak çeşitli alt tabakalara ve 

şekillere baskı yapabilen, darbesiz bir süreç olarak doğal 

avantajlara sahip.

Print Industry in transition to a digital world

Baskı endüstrisi dijital bir dünyaya geçiş yapıyor 

The Print Horizons Report, published in March, is a brief 

guide to the most important topics that printers and 

suppliers need to research when preparing for drupa. The 

findings are based on additional questions from the 9th 

drupa Global Trends Survey on the key technical and market 

developments likely to dominate drupa 2024. The report 

provides valuable insights and helps prepare all printers for 

the changes in the industry, with a large part focused on 

digitalisation but also sustainability and ai. 

Regardless of their size, region, or market, all printers must 

recognize the seismic shifts in print caused by digitization. 

Indeed, the challenge lies in deciding where to begin, given 

the rapid pace of so many radical changes. 

The 9th drupa Global Trends report, published in November 

last year, was remarkably positive given the challenges 

faced in the last few years. Printers and suppliers know that 

exploiting new technology is key to a successful future. The 

problem is how best to achieve this end. With this in mind, 

the 2023 Trends survey asked a range of questions on 

technology opportunities and priorities. From the replies, 

the authors of the study draw up six key topics, which were 

at the top of the Market participants’ priority lists for further 

research and investment:

9. drupa Küresel Eğilimler Anketi'nden elde edilen ek 

sorulara dayanıyor. Rapor, değerli bilgiler sunmakta ve tüm 

matbaacıları, büyük bir kısmı dijitalleşmeye, aynı zamanda 

sürdürülebilirlik ve yapay zekaya odaklanan sektördeki 

değişikliklere hazırlamaya yardımcı olmaktadır. 

Büyüklükleri, bölgeleri veya pazarları ne olursa olsun, 

tüm matbaacılar dijitalleşmenin baskıda yol açtığı sismik 

değişimlerin farkına varmalıdır. Aslında asıl zorluk, bu kadar 

çok radikal değişikliğin hızlı temposu göz önüne alındığında 

nereden başlanacağına karar vermekte yatıyor. 

Geçen yıl Kasım ayında yayınlanan 9. drupa Küresel 

Eğilimler raporu, son birkaç yılda karşılaşılan zorluklar 

göz önüne alındığında oldukça olumluydu. Matbaacılar 

ve tedarikçiler, yeni teknolojiden yararlanmanın başarılı 

bir geleceğin anahtarı olduğunu biliyor. Sorun, bu amaca 

en iyi nasıl ulaşılacağıdır. Bu düşünceyle, 2023 Trendleri

The Printz Horizons Report addresses each of these topics 

and explores the survey findings, complemented by 

commentaries from industry specialists made in a series of 

interviews with this report’s authors. 

The changing dynamics of analogue and 

digital production 

The majority of printers will continue to use conventional 

print in tandem with digital production. If implemented 

effectively, the two processes should complement, not 

compete. Digital print should be seen as a core production 

method. 

While sheetfed toner technology still dominates the volume 

end of this market, inkjet in its various guises is where most 

supplier effort is focussed. Past simple conversations about 

the economic breakeven point between conventional and 

digital print have been overtaken by more sophisticated 

dialogues about how digital print can change a market and 

optimize production efficiency. 

Investments need to be made 

Print companies need to understand that investment in digital 

printing needs to go hand-in-hand with the digitalisation of 

other business processes. For example, many printers have 

made valiant attempts at automating individual workflows, 

but few have yet to tackle the bigger challenge of creating a 

single automated workflow from PDF to final product. This 

may be the time. 

Artificial Intelligence will of course also play a role. No 

technology report is complete today without giving attention 

to the impact of AI. It is already used in a number of 

applications within the print industry and drupa 2024 will 

see many suppliers promoting the benefits of using AI to 

assist and augment human capabilities. 

Sustainability and ESG 

No printer or supplier can afford to ignore sustainability any 

longer. Increasingly actions taken to increase sustainability 

are also good for the bottom line and are also demanded 

by customers, so it is a no-brainer to tackle the task with 

enthusiasm. ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) 

is more challenging, not least because there is no clear 

definition and legislators are struggling to codify what is 

meant. For now, printers and suppliers may wish to start 

with what they understand, namely formalising their CSR 

(Corporate Social Responsibility) policy and processes.

Printz Horizons Raporu bu konuların her birini ele almakta 

ve bu raporun yazarlarıyla yapılan bir dizi röportajda sektör 

uzmanlarının yorumlarıyla tamamlanan anket bulgularını 

incelemektedir. 

Analog ve dijital üretimin değişen dinamikleri 

Matbaacıların çoğu geleneksel baskıyı dijital üretimle birlikte 

kullanmaya devam edecek. Etkili bir şekilde uygulandığı 

takdirde, bu iki süreç birbiriyle rekabet etmemeli, birbirini 

tamamlamalıdır. Dijital baskı temel bir üretim yöntemi olarak 

görülmelidir. 

Tabaka toner teknolojisi hala bu pazarın hacimsel ucuna 

hakim olsa da, çeşitli görünümleriyle inkjet, tedarikçilerin 

çabalarının çoğunun odaklandığı yerdir. Geleneksel ve 

dijital baskı arasındaki ekonomik başabaş noktası hakkında 

geçmişte yapılan basit konuşmalar, dijital baskının bir pazarı 

nasıl değiştirebileceği ve üretim verimliliğini nasıl optimize 

edebileceği hakkında daha sofistike diyaloglar tarafından 

geride bırakıldı. 

Yatırımların yapılması gerekiyor 

Baskı şirketlerinin, dijital baskıya yapılan yatırımın diğer iş 

süreçlerinin dijitalleştirilmesiyle el ele gitmesi gerektiğini 

anlaması gerekiyor. Örneğin, birçok matbaacı bireysel iş 

akışlarını otomatikleştirmek için cesur girişimlerde bulundu, 

ancak çok azı PDF'den nihai ürüne kadar tek bir otomatik 

iş akışı oluşturma gibi daha büyük bir zorluğun üstesinden 

gelebildi. Şimdi tam zamanı olabilir. 

Yapay zekâ da elbette bir rol oynayacaktır. Bugün hiçbir 

teknoloji raporu yapay zekanın etkisine dikkat çekmeden 

tamamlanamaz. Baskı endüstrisinde halihazırda bir dizi 

uygulamada kullanılıyor ve drupa 2024, birçok tedarikçinin 

insan yeteneklerini desteklemek ve artırmak için yapay zekâ 

kullanmanın faydalarını tanıttığını görecek. 

Sürdürülebilirlik ve ESG 

Artık hiçbir matbaa veya tedarikçi sürdürülebilirliği 

görmezden gelemez. Sürdürülebilirliği artırmak için atılan 

adımlar giderek artan bir şekilde kârlılık için de iyi olmakta 

ve müşteriler tarafından da talep edilmektedir, bu nedenle 

bu görevi hevesle yerine getirmek hiç de zor değildir. ESG 

(Çevresel, Sosyal ve Yönetişim) daha zorlayıcıdır, çünkü 

net bir tanım yoktur ve yasa koyucular ne anlama geldiğini 

kodlamak için mücadele etmektedir. Şimdilik, matbaacılar 

ve tedarikçiler anladıkları şeyle, yani CSR (Kurumsal Sosyal 

Sorumluluk) politikalarını ve süreçlerini resmileştirmekle 

başlamak isteyebilirler.

Miraclon ve BOBST stratejik ortaklığını 

güçlendiriyor 

Miraclon and BOBST have reinforced their strategic 

partnership, with Miraclon named as the plate 

technology partner in BOBST’s new Competence Center 

in Atlanta. Officially opening this week, the center is home 

to a FLEXCEL NX System and FLEXCEL NX Ultra Processing 

Solution to support BOBST’s goal to produce plates that 

maximize the performance of their presses. 

Emma Weston, Chief Marketing Officer, Miraclon, said, 

“We’ve been collaborating closely with BOBST since our 

partnership in Europe started more than eight years ago. 

Visitors to the Bobst Bielefeld Demo Center in Germany 

have been able to see FLEXCEL NX plates in action after 

we installed a FLEXCEL NX System in 2019. Our strategic

The BOBST Competence Center will also be utilized by 

Miraclon for on-press demonstrations and print trials, giving 

printers and trade shops in North and South America the 

opportunity to see, first-hand, the on-press productivity and 

savings that FLEXCEL NX Technology offers. The Miraclon 

and BOBST partnership will likewise see the companies 

co-hosting industry events to promote how the technology 

enables efficient packaging printing.

away from plastic and toward more paper. HEIDELBERG

make savings on energy and raw materials. If you compare 

a Speedmaster from 1990 with the current version, the 

energy consumption per 1,000 sheets has been reduced 

by up to 40 percent. At this year’s drupa, HEIDELBERG will 

be presenting its latest generation of presses, which have 

a maximum speed of up to 21,000 sheets per hour. This 

increased production speed will help customers further lower 

their energy consumption per sheet. What’s more, the use 

of artificial intelligence and new assistance systems will also 

result in paper being saved by reducing the amount of paper 

waste.

digitalization? 

Digitalization in the printing industry enables end-to-end 

integration of the production process – from receiving the 

digital customer order, preparing the print data, planning

technology 

Explaining that APPPEXPO Fair, which is the pioneer of 

innovation and application in the digital printing industry, 

not only brings together the technological developments in 

the sector, but also prepares the ground for cross-border 

business partnerships, Lidya Group Chairman Bekir Öz said: 

"At the exhibition in Shanghai, we had the opportunity to 

see that China has reached a very high level, especially in 

inkjet technology. The Chinese could take the lead in inkjet

inkjet baskı, dijital kesim, ambalaj, tekstil baskı, grafik

(mürekkep püskürtmeli) baskı endüstriyel uygulamaları ve

oluşturuyor. Baskı sektöründeki dijitalleşmenin, verimliliğin

önüne seriliyor. Günümüzün bilim ve teknoloji dünyasında, 

endüstriyel gelişmeyi güçlendirmek için “dijitalden”

Export value of the chemicals industry exceeded 

3 billion dollars 

According to data provided by the Türkiye Exporters Assembly (TİM), exports of Türkiye 

decreased by 4.1 percent in March compared to the same period of last year and resulted in 

an export value of 22.5 billion dollars. The chemicals industry that achieved an export value 

of over 3 billion dollars became the second industry to export the most in March. While there 

was a general decrease in exports in March, the chemicals industry achieved a 5.6 percent 

increase in exports.

Türkiye İhracatçılar Meclisi (TİM) verilerine göre, Türkiye’nin ihracatı mart ayında geçen 

yıl aynı döneme göre yüzde 4,1 azalışla 22,5 milyar dolar olarak gerçekleşti. Kimya sektörü 

ise 3 milyar dolardan fazla ihracat gerçekleştirerek mart ayında en çok ihracat yapan ikinci 

sektör oldu. Mart ayında genel ihracatta gerileme olurken kimya sektörü ihracatını yüzde 5,6 

artırmayı başardı. 

Commenting on export figures of the chemicals industry 

in March, Chairman of the Board of Istanbul Chemicals 

and Chemical Products Exporters Association (İKMİB) Adil 

Pelister said: “In March our chemicals industry achieved

increase compared to the same month last year and 

received 13.5 percent share of national exports, becoming 

the second highest exporter sector. While there was a 

decrease in general exports in March, it is pleasing that 

our chemicals industry remained on the positive side and 

increased its performance. When we consider figures from 

the first quarter we see that our export exceeded 8 billion 

dollars. In this period our export as an industry grew by 7.7 

percent. Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products, plastics 

and products, and inorganic chemicals occupy the top 

three among our highest exported sub-industries. Among 

the highest receiver of exports, Holland, Romania, and Italy 

occupied the top three positions. As İKMİB we intensely 

continue our activities. Now that the uncertainty associated 

with election disappeared, we foresee that economics and 

exports will be emphasized further. We will continue to work 

more every month to continue to achieve this increase in 

exports.”

alt sektörlerimizde ilk üçte mineral yakıtlar, yağlar ve 

ürünler, plastikler ve mamulleri ile anorganik kimyasallar 

yer aldı. En çok ihracat yapılan ülkeler sıralamasında ise 

Hollanda, Romanya ve İtalya ilk üçte yer aldı. İKMİB olarak 

faaliyetlerimize yoğun bir şekilde devam ediyoruz. Artık 

seçim belirsizliğinin ortadan kalkması ile birlikte ekonomi ve 

ihracata daha fazla ağırlık verileceğini öngörüyoruz. Her ay 

bu ihracat artışını sürdürebilmek için daha fazla çalışmaya 

devam edeceğiz” dedi. 


“Mineral fuels and products” was the highest 

exported sub-industry in March 

In March exports of mineral fuels products among subsectors 

of chemicals and chemical products reached 

1 billion 82 million 391 thousand dollars in value and 

occupied the first place. Plastics and products occupied 

the second place with exports reaching 811 million 326 

thousand dollars in value while exports of inorganic 

chemicals occupied the third place with 232 million 

274 thousand dollars in export value. Other sectors in 

top ten following ‘inorganic chemicals’ were ‘essential 

oils, cosmetics and soap’, ‘rubber, rubber products’, 

‘pharmaceuticals’, ‘paint, varnish, ink and their products’, 

‘miscellaneous chemical agents’, ‘cleaning products,’ and 

‘organic chemicals’. 

Holland became the highest receiver of 

exports in March 

The top ten countries that were the highest receiver of 

exports in March were Holland, Romania, Italy, Egypt, Spain, 

Russia, USA, Germany, Belgium, and Iraq. The highest 

increase in March among the top 10 countries was to 

Romania with 275.52 percent increase.

Mart ayında kimyevi maddeler ve mamulleri ürün 

gruplarında mineral yakıtlar ve ürünler ihracatı, 1 milyar 

82 milyon 391 bin dolarla kimya ihracatında ilk sırada yer 

aldı. İkinci sırada 811 milyon 326 bin dolarlık ihracatla 

plastikler ve mamulleri yer alırken, anorganik kimyasallar 

ihracatı 232 milyon 274 bin dolarla üçüncü sırada yer aldı. 

‘Anorganik kimyasallar’ı takiben ilk onda yer alan diğer 

sektörler ise; ‘uçucu yağlar, kozmetikler ve sabun’, ‘kauçuk, 

kauçuk eşya’, ‘eczacılık ürünleri’, ‘boya, vernik, mürekkep 

ve müstahzarları’, ‘muhtelif kimyasal maddeler’, ‘yıkama 

müstahzarları’ ve ‘organik kimyasallar’ oldu.

ülke oldu 

Mart ayında en çok ihracat yapılan ilk on ülke Hollanda, 

Romanya, İtalya, Mısır, İspanya, Rusya, ABD, Almanya, 

Belçika ve Irak oldu. Mart ayında ilk 10 ülke arasında en çok 

artış yüzde 275,52 ile Romanya’da oldu.

2025, the exhibition dedicated to the world of printing that 

will take place next year at Fiera Milano. 

The Print4All Conference, organised by Acimga (Italian 

Association of Manufacturers of Machinery for the Graphic, 

Paper and Converting Industry) and ARGI (Association of 

Suppliers to the Graphic Industry), in collaboration with 

Fiera Milano, is a well-established event aimed at the entire 

printing and converting industry. 

The title, Future Print: supply chain outlooks and innovation 

for the printing industry of tomorrow, summarises the day's 

objective. Starting with an analysis of the innovations and 

technological advances introduced to the market in recent 

months, a broader scenario will be sketched out, leaving 

ample room for interdisciplinary debate throughout the 

supply chain, to consider the future directions all areas 

of printing industry, from converting to packaging, from 

labelling to commercial and industrial printing.

For 25 years, the Label Manufacturers Association - ESD, 

which has been benefiting its members and the industry 

with the responsibility it has undertaken, held its 12th 

Ordinary General Assembly Meeting on 6 March 2024 

in Istanbul. As a result of the election held at the General 

Assembly, the Board of Directors of ESD for the 2024- 

2027 period was determined. The new term Board of 

Directors consists of valuable names of leading company 

representatives who have added value to the sector.

At the 12th Ordinary General Assembly, in addition to 

the Board of Directors, the Audit Board, which plays an 

important role in the management of ESD, the Registry Board 

and the Advisory Board, consisting of names who have 

contributed to the association for many years, were also 

determined. 

"The New Language of New Life" It will be our priority to 

produce sustainable and innovative solutions for the future 

of the label, which we characterise as a label. 

Merve ERGENÇ, the new president of the Label 

Manufacturers Association, said the following: 

As the 12th Term Board of Directors, we will make great 

efforts to carry the flag that we have taken over from Mr 

Aydın OKAY and our esteemed boards, who have made 

great contributions to our association and who have 

ensured the realisation of successful projects in the past 

periods. While ensuring the sustainability of the projects we 

have taken over in the new period, we will also realise our 

new works in line with the rapidly changing world. In this 

process, we will continue to produce added value with our 

members and sector stakeholders. 

With our responsibility to our country and our industry, we 

will work together as the voice of the entire industry with 

our experience and innovative perspective in the light of the 

experiences of the past board of directors. I would like to 

thank our past presidents and their administrations who have 

brought ESD, the only and well-established association in 

Turkey representing our industry, to these days, and I wish 

success to our new Board members.

ESD yönetiminde önemli rol üstlenen Denetim Kurulu, 

Sicil Kurulu ve derneğe uzun yıllar katkı ve değer sunmuş 

isimlerden oluşan Danışma Kurulu da belirlendi. 

“Yeni Yaşamın Yeni Lisanı” olarak nitelendirdiğimiz etiketin 

geleceği için sürdürülebilir ve yenilikçi çözümler üretmek 

önceliğimiz olacak. 

Etiket Sanayicileri Derneği’nin yeni başkanı Merve ERGENÇ 

şunları söyledi: 

Geçmiş dönemlerde başarılı projelerin hayata geçmesini 

sağlayan, derneğimize büyük katkıları bulunan Sayın Aydın 

OKAY ve değerli kurullarımızdan devraldığımız bayrağı, 12. 

Dönem Yönetim Kurulu olarak daha ileriye taşımak adına 

büyük çaba sarf edeceğiz. Yeni dönemde devraldığımız 

projelerin sürdürülebilirliğini sağlarken, hızla değişen 

dünya ile uyumlu şekilde yeni çalışmalarımızı da hayata 

geçireceğiz. Bu süreçte en büyük destekçimiz üyelerimiz 

ve sektör paydaşlarımız ile katma değer üretmeye devam 

edeceğiz. 

Ülkemize ve sektörümüze olan sorumluluğumuzla, geçmiş 

yönetim kurulunun tecrübeleri ışığında, deneyimlerimiz ve 

yenilikçi bakış açımızla tüm sektörün sesi olarak hep beraber 

çalışacağız. Sektörümüzü temsil eden, Türkiye’de tek ve

Sun Chemical, Cardbox Packaging ile iş birliği 

yapıyor 

Sun Chemical announces its ongoing collaboration with 

packaging solutions company, Cardbox Packaging. Sun 

Chemical is supplying Cardbox with SunPak ® FSP EcoPace 

sheetfed, low migration inks for high productivity, high speed 

folding carton printing and for its SunHub compact ink 

dispenser at their Austria site. 

In 2023, Cardbox became the first printer worldwide 

to install the Heidelberg XL106 packaging printing 

machine that runs at 21,000 sheets per hour, and it is 

on this machine they now employ the inks. The ongoing 

collaboration enables Cardbox to validate new products with 

Sun Chemical before they go to market, while Cardbox may 

be amongst the first folding carton packaging converters 

in the world to showcase and produce solutions for high 

productivity and sustainable packaging printing powered by 

the new technologies.

Cardbox, 2023 yılında saatte 21.000 tabaka ile çalışan 

Heidelberg XL106 ambalaj baskı makinesini dünya çapında 

kuran ilk matbaa oldu ve şimdi bu makinede mürekkepleri 

kullanıyorlar. Devam eden iş birliği, Cardbox'ın yeni ürünleri 

piyasaya çıkmadan önce Sun Chemical ile doğrulamasını 

Meeting the challenges to further increase productivity 

means trouble-free printing at the highest possible printing 

speeds, even on the more problematic carton boards. Sun 

Chemical worked with Cardbox during the development 

stage of the new ink range to understand the print demands 


of high quality, high productivity, high speed 

printing, as well as to verify the effectiveness 

of the products across different substrates 

and job design formats before they went to 

market. 

Using SunPak FSP, Sun Chemical’s 

flagship sheetfed offset low migration ink 

for food packaging, as the benchmark, 

the collaboration with Sun Chemical’s 

additional beta test partners resulted in the 

introduction of SunPak ® FSP EcoPace – Sun 

Chemical’s first ink to transition to the new, 

groundbreaking ‘Pace’ technology platform 

for sheetfed offset inks. The innovation is the 

result of extensive research and development 

into new materials needed to meet the 

demand for a highly versatile and reliable 

printing ink that delivers consistent high 

quality, high productivity printing even on 

problematic boards and papers where picking 

and delamination usually occur. 

The inks have been designed, tested and 

proven to guarantee excellent results on high 

volume long run printing, and equally short 

run lengths, due to the fast responsive nature 

on both closed loop and manually adjusted 

colour control systems. 

Similar to all of Sun Chemical’s new sheetfed 

ink developments, the inks are based on 

materials from renewable sources resulting in 

an average BRC (bio renewable content) across the process 

inks of 77%. This can be further increased by introducing an 

optional process black whereby the pigment is derived from 

a non-fossil fuel carbon source, which elevates the BRC of 

the black to 89%, increasing the average to 84%. 

Additionally the formulation is PTFE wax free and carries 

Cradle to Cradle Material Health Bronze certification, which 

can be increased to Platinum by introducing an optional 

process yellow. 

More recently, Sun Chemical also provided its SunHub 

compact ink dispenser to enable Cardbox to become selfsufficient 

and mix and dispense low volume, high frequency 

spot colours. The dispenser is cost effective and easy to use, 

with a small and compact footprint that can manage high 

frequency, small batch spot colour production on demand. 

This helps reduce waiting times, the likelihood of over 

ordering, and the required frequency of deliveries, boosting 

efficiency and ultimately reducing their carbon footprint. 

SunHub is currently only available within the EU. 

Chris Düringer, Director Technology and Material at 

Cardbox Packaging comments: “The implementation of 

SunPak FSP EcoPace proceeded smoothly, ensuring a 

seamless transition. The switch from FSP to FSP EcoPace has 

proven to be highly successful both in terms of quality and

kanıtlanmıştır. 

Sun Chemical'ın tüm yeni tabaka mürekkep 

geliştirmelerine benzer şekilde, mürekkepler yenilenebilir 

kaynaklardan elde edilen malzemelere dayanmaktadır ve 

bu da proses mürekkepleri genelinde ortalama %77 BRC 

(biyo yenilenebilir içerik) ile sonuçlanmaktadır. Bu oran, 

pigmentin fosil yakıt olmayan bir karbon kaynağından 

elde edildiği ve siyahın BRC'sini %89'a yükselterek 

ortalamayı %84'e çıkaran isteğe bağlı bir proses siyahı 

eklenerek daha da artırılabilir. 

Ayrıca formülasyon PTFE vaks içermez ve Cradle to 

Cradle Material Health Bronze sertifikasına sahiptir; bu 

sertifika, isteğe bağlı bir sarı proses eklenerek Platinum'a 

yükseltilebilir. 

Yakın zamanda Sun Chemical, Cardbox'ın kendi kendine

Migration concerns were effectively addressed with no 

issues or discussions with end customers. 

Under production conditions and during long runs, the 

colour mist is remarkably well-controlled without any 

anomalies. Our specialists are highly satisfied with the 

colour performance. There have been no restrictions or 

problems with the protective coatings used. We have 

further developments in the pipeline and anticipate 

additional optimisations in the future.”

Change of flag in OMUD management 

The 19th Ordinary General Assembly Meeting of OMÜD Corrugated Cardboard Industrialists 

Association, the first professional organisation of the packaging sector and the sector 

representative of sustainable packaging corrugated cardboard, was held. At the General 

Assembly meeting, which is held every two years and where the members of the board of 

directors and the supervisory board are determined, Abdullah Arslan was elected as the 

President. 

OMÜD yönetiminde bayrak değişimi 

Ambalaj sektörünün ilk meslek kuruluşu ve sürdürülebilir ambalaj oluklu mukavvanın sektör 

temsilcisi olan OMÜD Oluklu Mukavva Sanayicileri Derneği’nin 19’uncu Olağan Genel Kurul 

Toplantısı yapıldı. İki yılda bir yapılan ve yönetim kurulu ile denetleme kurulu üyelerinin 

belirlendiği Genel Kurul toplantısında Abdullah Arslan Başkan seçildi. 

The General Assembly meeting of OMÜD Corrugated 

Cardboard Industrialists' Association, which has left 

its mark on the works that add value to the corrugated 

cardboard industry with its activities, was held on 28 March 

with a wide participation. At the general assembly, Abdullah

Arslan was unanimously elected as the Chairman of the 

Board of Directors of OMÜD Corrugated Cardboard 

Industrialists' Association. Arslan took over from Buğra 

Sükan, the previous chairman. The meeting, which was 

attended by OMÜD noble and sympathy members and 

sector stakeholders, was also attended by veteran executives 

and former presidents who have spent a long time in the 

sector. 

Yönetim Kurulu Başkanı olarak seçildi. Arslan, görevi önceki 

dönem başkanı Buğra Sükan’dan devraldı. OMÜD asil ve 

sempati üyeleri ile sektör paydaşlarının katıldığı toplantıya, 

sektöre uzun zaman emek sarf etmiş duayen yöneticiler ve 

eski başkanlar da katıldı. 

In his speech, Abdullah Arslan, who took the chairmanship 

seat, said that he was very happy and proud to be elected 

as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of such a wellestablished 

sector association and said, "I would like to 

thank the esteemed Buğra Sükan and our previous board 

of directors who handed over this important duty to me. 

With this staff, where I am also a treasurer member, we 

have done very good work together under the leadership 

of Buğra Sükan. From now on, we will continue to work 

together without slowing down to carry OMÜD Corrugated 

Cardboard Industrialists Association to better places." 

Buğra Sükan, who chaired OMÜD Corrugated Cardboard 

Industrialists' Association for four years, wished that the 

General Assembly meeting would be auspicious and 


auspicious for all participants and the sector. "As OMÜD 

Corrugated Cardboard Industrialists' Association, we have 

done a lot of work to ensure that corrugated cardboard 

packaging is the most preferred packaging solution by 

explaining its superior features to the relevant parties for four 

years. From now on, our association will continue to work on 

behalf of our sector and our members, " he said. 

Başkanlık koltuğuna oturan Abdullah Arslan konuşmasında, 

bu kadar köklü bir sektör derneğinin Yönetim Kurulu 

Başkanlığı görevine seçildiği için çok mutlu ve gururlu 

olduğunu söyleyerek, “Bu önemli görevi bana devreden 

değerli Buğra Sükan’a ve bir önceki yönetim kurulumuza 

teşekkür ediyorum. Benim de sayman üye olarak 

bulunduğum bu kadro ile Buğra Sükan liderliğinde hep 

birlikte çok güzel çalışmalar yaptık. Bundan sonra da OMÜD 

Oluklu Mukavva Sanayicileri Derneği’ni daha güzel yerlere

Also central to the Mimaki booth will be the JFX600- 

2513 flatbed UV printer and CFX-2513 cutting plotter, 

demonstrated as a complete industrial print-and-cut solution. 

Expanding Mimaki’s cutting plotter portfolio, the CFX-2513 

is a high-end cutting solution which operates with increased 

speed and efficiency. 

With the trend of customization on the rise, Mimaki will also 

showcase its range of direct-to-object solutions, including 

the UJF-6042 MkII e, which will demonstrate 360-degree 

printing with the Kebab HS unit. Notably, two industrialgrade 

UJF-7151 plusII UV printers will be working alongside 

a robotic arm, highlighting Mimaki's commitment to 

addressing future trends in printing, particularly automation, 

and showcasing how Mimaki solutions can seamlessly 

integrate into automated workflows. 

For the textile segment, Mimaki will feature the TxF300-75 

for direct-to-film (DTF) printing, which has been gaining 

traction in recent years. Additionally, Mimaki will exhibit 

its revolutionary Neo-Chromato Process, a world first in 

cyclical textile technology. Allowing the re-use of previously 

dyed polyester textiles, this process eliminates the need for 

incineration and reduces energy consumption associated 

with recycling by decolourising polyester textiles that have 

been dyed using dye sublimation technologies. 

Mimaki stand promises to ‘wow’ visitors 

In addition to technology innovation, sustainability, 

collaboration and inclusivity are also key to the Mimaki 

vision, one example being the company’s work with Indian 

foundation, Tiny Miracles. The foundation, created to 

employ and support women in local communities, will 

produce environmentally friendly, Mimaki branded cotton 

bags especially for drupa, beautifully designed to encourage 

reuse. 

Additionally, a fascinating display of inspiring, vibrant, and 

high-quality applications will be showcased in Mimaki’s very 

own ‘shopfront’, created especially for drupa. The shelves 

will be packed with new samples, real-life applications and

Working towards a sustainable future 

Mimaki’s comprehensive and inspiring goals driving 

sustainability across the industries in which it operates will 

be at the core of its drupa presence. Marc Verbeem, Product 

Management Supervisor, Mimaki Europe, will be speaking at 

the Touchpoint Textile Forum (Hall 4 – Digital Textile Micro 

Factory) on both the 4th and 5th June at 14:30-14:50 on 

‘Textile Transformation: Pioneering Sustainability through 

Digital Printing’. 

Danna Drion, Mimaki Europe’s General Manager Marketing 

and Product Management EMEA, is hosting a drupa cube 

discussion, titled ‘The Diverse Benefits of an Inclusive 

Workplace’ on 4th June at 13.45. From the challenges 

women can face in male-dominated fields to engaging a 

younger generation, Drion discusses how Mimaki, and the 

print industry as a whole, can foster inclusivity and diversity.

intelligence uses algorithms to respond to requests, using 

available data sets to formulate responses. It can be taught 

to respond to almost anything that can be broken down 

into steps. It can analyse and synthesise data and content to 

provide additional information, but it can make mistakes.

Generative artificial intelligence is used to create content. It 

can create text and images, transcribe and translate audio, 

and write computer code. To understand how this technology 

can be used in the printing sector, we asked artificial 

intelligence itself to give us an answer. ChatGPT immediately 

told us the leading six areas of AI use in printing, which 

are: customer service; design support; order customisation; 

prepress troubleshooting; product recommendations and 

order tracking/updating. 

Many suppliers to the print industry have been exploring 

the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning (ML) 

for years. Imposition solution providers have used the 

combination of AI and ML techniques to present the most 

efficient imposition schemes based on specific requirements 

such as reducing waste and job changes. Other tools have 

begun to incorporate AI/ML techniques to accelerate the 

development of colour profiles, prepress workflow profiles 

and workflow rules for automation solutions. We may all 

have used artificial intelligence solutions without knowing it. 

The use of artificial intelligence in software solution 

architectures is growing in both print and customer 

communications. In webinars and product demos you'll 

find some interesting integrations of OpenAI's ChatGPT, 

Significant-Gravitas' AutoGPT and even new features of 

GrammarlyGO. Of course, much of the application of AI is 

not revealed in the product specifications. 

There are several companies that use generative artificial 

intelligence to improve their solutions. ChatGPT is used 

to improve communication with customers and provide 

guidance to ensure the tone of messaging is in line with 

corporate values. Artificial intelligence techniques have 

been used to eliminate scripts from document indexing and 

other processes through the use of intelligent models, and to 

automate the entire outbound document workflow.
