assigned ELL program. One of the main reasons <strong>for</strong> assessing <strong>ELLs</strong> is to properly place them in a program that will best<br />
serve their cultural, linguistic, and academic needs. As an advocate <strong>for</strong> these students, you need to understand the<br />
various programs that are available to <strong>ELLs</strong>. For your discussion post, your instructor will place you into a specific group<br />
(see announcements). Please use the name of your group in the subject heading of your discussion question response.<br />
? Group One: Newcomer Program ? Group Two: Structured Immersion Program ? Group Three: Two-Way Immersion or<br />
Dual Language Program ? Group Four: English Language Development Program (ELD) Based on your assigned group,<br />
list at least three pros and cons of your ELL program. Use your text and additional sources to support your response.<br />
Then choose at least one classmate?s post who was assigned to a different group. Compare your program with their<br />
program and state at least one similarity and one difference between the two. Then describe which program you think is<br />
more effective <strong>for</strong> our English Language Learners and why. Provide at least two reasons and evidence from the<br />
literature to validate those reasons. Guided Response: Respond to at least two classmates? posts from the other two<br />
groups. Add to their conversation by sharing what you know about your assigned program. Respond to any questions<br />
posted by your instructor.<br />
