EDU 365 EDU/365 EDU365 Week 2 Discussion 2/DQ 2 Nationalization and Centralization -NEW Nationalization and
Centralization. According to Phelps (2005), standardized tests have been a part of American education since the
mid-1800s. In fact, after the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) mandated annual testing, the use of standardized testing
skyrocketed in all 50 states. In addition, Phelps (2005) attributes NCLB as the driving force behind centralization,
standardization, and accountability in schools. In this discussion, we will debate the advantages and disadvantages in
the centralization, standardization, and high stakes accountability in schools. Please find your assigned debate group
below: Debate Grouping (by first letter of last name): ? A-L: Proponents of centralization, standardization, and high
stakes accountability in schools ? M-Z: Opponents of centralization, standardization, and high stakes accountability in
schools Guided Response: Conduct research on NCLB using the web and the Ashford University Library, and develop a
cohesive and research-based argument for or against centralization, standardization, and high stakes accountability in
schools based on the position you have been assigned. Then, respond to at least two classmates from the opposite
group and critically evaluate each of their arguments. Comment on the accuracy and clarity of their posts and ask
follow-up questions if needed. Your response should be based on your research and not just on your opinion.
