Fighting Covid is also a
war about information
At a meeting on Monday, I discussed with
Victorian Covid Commander Jeroen Weimar
and Acting CHO Ben Cowie on the impact of the
recent Covid surge on ethnic minority groups. I
pointed out that the lifting of restrictions prior to
the Christmas/New Year period had caused the
exponential growth in infections, and that our
failed testing system and provision had caused
made up to a million of infected and their close
contacts in chaos.
Many services and supply chains in the
society has been disrupted by the mandatory
isolation of workforce of the health system,
transport and logistic industry, restaurant,
supermarket and retail trading. The governments
have since then regulated testing and isolation
policies in order to alleviate the problem. This
reflects the federal and state government have
failed to prepare themselves for the super
spreading of Omicron.
I have known contacts who got infected
but only suffered minor symptoms because
they were fully vaccinated. To them, the most
unbearable were not the symptoms but the
hardship in getting tested both through queuing
up for the PCR and hunting for the RAT. Their
experience also tells that the recent wave of
Omicron strain might not be that threatening,
as in they were fully vaccinated/ boosted, thus
they tend to doubt whether the government has
been adopting an unnecessary strategy in the
handling.
Despite this growing sentiment, there are
still cases from the Delta or another strain which
can be fatal or cause serious illness. This could
be a dilemma to the government and the society.
I asked Jeroen and Ben how to explain the
complication of the issue to the ethnic minorities,
they knew that it would take considerable effort
and resource to educate the public on this front.
I think the federal and state governments
must direct more resources on this education ad
publicity via the multicultural media. This is part of
an on-going battle and must not be neglected.
Imagine over the coming weeks there would
be millions of people well recovering from Covid
playing down the alert as needed, thus putting
those vulnerable and unvaccinated in very high
risk.

Gran Coupe
The styling of the new BMW 4 Series
Gran Coupé combines a four-door design
with sporty, dynamically stretched coupé
lines. This creates a strong silhouette
with a low-slung, muscular stature that is
both bold and confident. In turn, various
complementary details have been included,
from the prominent BMW kidney grille on
the front to the frameless doors and flushfitting
handles. The overall package conveys
power, but also refinement.
Compared to its predecessor, the car
is now longer, wider, and taller, with a
correspondingly longer wheelbase. There
is thus a generous interior for drivers and
passengers, as well as a spacious boot of
440 litres that can be expanded to 1,290
litres by folding down sections of the rear
backrest.
There are three new 2022 4 Series Gran
Coupe;
420i Gran Coupe: $75,900 plus on-road
costs
430i Gran Coupe: $83,900 plus on-road
costs
M440i xDrive Gran Coupe: $115,900 plus
on-road cost
We tested the 430i Gran Coupe.
Exterior
Starting with its exterior, the BMW 4
Series is a masterpiece of overall appeal,
adopts a sleek stance, and is intended to
be the sportiest coupé you will find in the
market. The automaker has done it complete
justice by adding to its sleek side profile
features of bold aerodynamic design and
aggressiveness, retaining its lines and
narrow design, and supplying full-LED lights
across the vehicle.
The front grille of the car is distinctively
sleek, fitting elegantly between headlights.
The new styling further details the two-door,
four-seat coupé and makes it more elegant
than ever.
Moreover, the vehicle now stands at
4,783mm in length, 1,852mm in its width,
1,442mm in its height, and 2,856mm
wheelbase that bringing about 1,645kg of
unladen weight. The 4 Series 30i M SPORT
GRAN COUPE comes standard with 245/40
R19 front tyres and 255/40 R19 rear tyres.
It has a 140mm ground clearance. It has a
final gear ratio of 2.929.
Interior & Features
Inside, our 430i gets BMW Live
Cockpit Professional with a 12.3-inch fully
digital instrument binnacle, a 10.25-inch
touchscreen display in the middle with BMW
Operating System 7.0, BMW Connected
Drive services, wireless charging, and
Harman Kardon surround sound system and
Sensa Tec leather.
Sensa Tec is a leather material by BMW
built on vinyl and not animal-based.
Being an M Sport model, it gets the
requisite anthracite headlining, M leatherwrapped
steering wheel, M-specific
foot pedals, powered front sports seats
with memory function (driver side only),
aluminium Tetragon trimmings finished
in pearl chrome, seat belts with M Sport
stripes, and leather seats.

There is also ambient lighting with 11
predefined settings, electrochromic rearview
mirror and driver’s side mirror, triplezone
automatic climate control, welcome
light carpet, and BMW’s Comfort Access
system.
To top things off, a full suite of driver
assistance features provided by the
BMW Operating System 7 ensures that
operating and interfacing with the vehicle is
uncomplicated. Functions can be accessed
in various ways, from traditional buttons
to voice commands, while the 12.3-inch
instrument cluster behind the steering wheel
and separate 10.25-inch control display
serve as visual indicators for the driver.
Boot space is 470 to 1,290 litres of
volume. The second row is divided 40:20:40
Ride & Handling
Concerning driving the BMW 4 Series, I
can confidently vouch for the power output
of this sporty sedan. Power delivery is just
right, giving a punch when you put your foot
on the gas pedal. Driving this vehicle is a
great experience, with responsive handling
on sharp turns and over rough terrain.
Engine & Fuel Consumption
Our test car was powered by a 2.0L
turbocharged four-cylinder engine churning
out a maximum output of 190kW power and
peak torque of 400Nm, reaching 100 km per
hour in 6.2 seconds.
Safety
There are Driver Air Bag, Front Head
Air Bag, Front Side Air Bag, Knee Airbag,
Passenger Air Bag, Rear Head Airbag,
Back-Up Camera, Rear Parking Aid, Blind
Spot Monitor, ABS, Tire Pressure Monitor,
Brake Assist, Stability Control, Autonomous
emergency braking, Lane departure
warning, Blind-spot monitoring, and Traction
Control.
Warranty and Servicing
The 4 Series Gran Coupe is backed by a
three-year/ unlimited-kilometre warranty.
All maintenance requirements for the
BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé are controlled
by the Condition Based Servicing (CBS)
system.
With CBS, sensors and advanced
algorithms monitor can calculate the
conditions in which a vehicle is used,
including mileage, the time elapsed since its
last service, fuel consumption, and how a
vehicle is driven. Based on the information
captured, maintenance requirements are
determined, identifying whether an annual
vehicle inspection or oil service is due.
Selected BMW service and maintenance
costs can be covered by a single, oneoff
advance payment with BMW Service
Inclusive (BSI), which is available in two
packages: Basic or Plus. Plus package
covers consumables like brake pads and
