Not so Useful Phrases
By: Ger Hennessy
If you’re not a native speaker of Danish you’ve
probably been using the Spejdergloser or
Lommeordbog booklets, containing useful
camp-related phrases.
Of course, with the limited space available in
such small booklets, a number of phrases were
not included. Here you will find some of
the missing terminology.
English: This soup could do with a little more
truffle oil.
Dansk: Denne suppe ville drage fordel af
tilsætningen af trøffelolie.
Lost in Translation...
14 Spejdernes Lejr 2012 Torsdag
English: I would just like to say that of all the
campers here, I think that you are the most
beautiful, I saw you and I couldn’t pass without
saying hello to you.
Danish: Hej!
English: Today we should climb a mountain.
Danish: Stop! A translation of the word
"mountain" was not found. The word does not
excist in Danish.
English: I believe, though at this point I am not
yet sure, that our tent may possibly be on fire. I
suggest, as a precaution that we evacuate, and
raise the alarm. What do you think?
Danish: Aaahhhhh!
English: If I do the washing-up tonight, will you do
it tomorrow?
Danish: Jeg er en turist, du skal drage fordel af
min gavmildhed og give mig alle de upopulære
job.
English: I really like the new One Direction song
Danish: Jeg har frygtelig smag for musik.
English: I think someone just farted.
Danish: Ska’ vi gå udenfor?
