„wir dürfen unsere zukunft
auch jetzt nicht
vernachlässigen“. Eines der schwierigsten Jahre in der
geschichte der steckverbinderindustrie und der gesamtwirtschaft
ist vorbei. was 2010 mit sich bringen
wird, steht noch nicht fest, aber es ist bereits klar,
dass die spuren, die das „Krisenjahr“ 2009 in der
wirtschaft hinterlassen hat, nicht so schnell verschwinden
werden.
wann kommt der große aufschwung? sind die
Erholungsanzeichen wirklich von dauer oder eher nur
eine wirtschaftliche fata morgana? Über solche
fragen wird viel diskutiert, theoretisiert und philosophiert
aber letztendlich werden sie nicht beantwortet.
Keiner kann die zukunft vorhersagen. aber eines
ist ganz klar: die zukunft ist nicht aufzuhalten, wir
müssen die dinge nehmen wie sie kommen. in schwierigen
wie in guten zeiten dürfen wir die zukunft nicht
vernachlässigen. Einen dauerhaften Erfolg hat nur
der, der sich stetig eine gute Basis für die zukunft
schafft und die chancen, die sich anbieten, letztendlich
auch ergreift, wenn sie kommen.

“this is not the time to neglect our future.” one of the
most difficult years in the history of the connector industry
and the economy as a whole is over. it is too
soon to tell what 2010 will bring, but it is already clear
that the marks that the “crisis year” 2009 has left behind
in the economy will not disappear overnight.
when will the big upswing come? are the recovery
indicators really permanent, or are they only an economic
mirage? Such questions are the topic of a great
deal of discussion, theorizing and philosophizing, but
ultimately there are no answers. no one can predict
the future. but one thing is absolutely clear: there is
no stopping the future, and we have to take things
the way they come.
whether the times are good or bad, we cannot neglect
the future. lasting success is only possible for
those who continually create a good basis for the future,
and who ultimately take advantage of whatever
opportunities may come their way.

auch wenn sie manchmal weit weg erscheint.
unsere fundamente werden erweitert, verstärkt und
vertieft. ob neue Produkte, verbesserte Prozessabläufe
oder eine vielfältige ausbildung – wir haben
auch in letzter zeit viel erreicht und werden noch viel
mehr erreichen.
unsere kostengünstigen und gleichzeitig qualitativ
hochwertigen stecksysteme odu mini-mEd und
odu mEdi-snaP disposable sind jetzt am markt verfügbar
und haben bereits für neue umsätze gesorgt.
wir haben auch neue Einsatzmöglichkeiten für bestehende
Produkte gefunden. im werkzeugbau haben
wir die ersten schritte eines optimierungsprogramms
umgesetzt und arbeiten bereits intensiv an den nächsten
schritten. mit der ul-zertifizierung unserer
Kabelkonfektion setzen wir ein neues, wichtiges
zeichen für sicherheit und Vertrauen. Einige unserer
auszubildenden hatten die möglichkeit neue Erfahrungen
bei einem anderen steckverbinderhersteller
zu sammeln, um so ihre horizonte zu erweitern und
um neue ideen anzuregen.
odu konnte außerdem gerade erste Erfolge in neuen
strategischen märkten erzielen. aber darüber werden
wir in naher zukunft noch ausführlich berichten.

at odu, we are continually working on a better future,
even if it sometimes seems to be far away. our
foundations are being expanded, reinforced and
deepened. whether new products, improved process
flows or diversified training – we have achieved a
great deal even in recent times, and we will achieve
even more in the future.
our economical and yet premium quality odu minimed
and odu medi-Snap disposable connection systems
are now available on the market, and have already
generated new sales. we have also found
possible new applications for existing products. in
tool manufacturing, we have taken the first steps in
an optimization program and are already working intensely
on the next steps. with the ul-certification of
our cable assembly area, we are sending a new, important
signal for reliability and trust. Some of our
trainees had the opportunity to gain new experience
at another connector manufacturer, and so to expand
their horizons and stimulate new ideas.
odu was additionally able to achieve the first successful
outcomes in new strategic markets. but this is a
matter that we want to report on in greater detail in
the near future.

„Bereits im Jahr 2020 sollen die stromflitzer und Vollhybrid-Pkw
die herkömmlich betriebenen Pkw in
sachen Kosten je Kilometer eingeholt haben.“ diese
meldung war mitte des letzten Jahres im focus zu
lesen und zeigt, dass sich der trend hin zu alternativen
antrieben im 2. Jahrzehnt weiter beschleunigen
wird. was bedeutet dies für die odu automotive und
wo sehen wir die Einsatzgebiete unserer hV stecksysteme?
wir haben mit dem serieneinsatz des hochvolt-Batteriesteckers
für den mercedes s400 Blue-
hybrid einen guten anfang gemacht.
doch der Einsatz in einem sog. „mild-hybrid“ fahrzeug
ist erst der anfang. zur Erklärung: „mild-hybrid“
fahrzeuge fahren nicht wie ihre „full-hybrid“
Kollegen voll elektrisch, sie unterstützen vielmehr
beim Beschleunigen und laden die Batterie beim
Bremsen.
der nächste, konsequente schritt werden fahrzeuge
sein, die vor allem auch weitere strecken rein elektrisch
fahren können. und hier konkurrieren derzeit
verschiedene antriebsarten um die beste lösung.
schon sehr bekannt sind Elektrofahrzeuge, wie
beispielsweise der Bmw mini E, von dessen beeindruckender
fahrdynamik wir uns im letzten Jahr
selbst überzeugen konnten.
um die reichweite von aktuell ca. 150 km zu erweitern,
werden heute sog. „range-Extender“ eingesetzt.
hierunter versteht man einen kleinen aber

cars as far as the costs per kilometer are
concerned.”
this report appeared in the german focus magazine
last year. it shows that the trend toward alternative
drives will be further accelerated in the second decade.
what does this mean for odu automotive, and
what application areas do we see for our hv connection
systems? we got off to a good start when the
high-voltage battery connector for the mercedes
S400 blue hybrid went into production.
but use in a so-called “mild hybrid” vehicle is just the
start. an explanation: unlike their “full hybrid” colleagues,
“mild hybrid” vehicles do not drive solely on
electricity. instead, they provide support during acceleration
and charge the battery when the brakes are
applied. the next logical step will be vehicles that feature
the ability to cover even longer distances using
only an electric drive. and here there are currently
various types of drives competing for the best solution.
electric vehicles are already well known, such as
the bmw mini e whose impressive vehicle dynamics
we had a chance to verify ourselves last year.
in order to increase the maximum range beyond the
currently roughly 150 km, “range extenders” are used
today. these are small but effective combustion engines
that charge the battery when necessary and ex-

elektrisch fahren und haben zusätzlich einen Verbrennungsmotor
an Bord für normalen fahrbetrieb.
das heißt, in verkehrsberuhigten gegenden fährt
man elektrisch, außerorts hingegen mit dem
bekannten Benzinmotor. ganz ohne Emissionen zu
fahren schaffen fahrzeuge mit einer Brennstoffzelle.
hier wird z. B. wasserstoff getankt, der in der Brennstoffzelle
zu elektrischem strom umgewandelt wird
und einen Elektromotor antreibt. aus dem „auspuff“
eines Brennstoffzellenfahrzeugs entweicht lediglich
noch wasserdampf. das besondere an all diesen Konzepten
ist, dass immer speicherbatterien benötigt
werden, deren Energie über odu Batteriesteckverbinder
an die weiteren aggregate und geräte verteilt
werden kann. somit eröffnet sich ein breites und
äußerst interessantes anwendungsgebiet für unsere
hV steckverbinder.
die weiterentwicklung der verschiedenen Konzepte
werden wir daher permanent begleiten und dafür
sorgen, dass unsere Kunden auch in zukunft innovative
lösungen von odu zu wirtschaftlichen Konditionen
erhalten.

the “plug-in hybrids” can be seen as a cross between
a hybrid and an electric vehicle. these vehicles
can cover distances of around 20 km using only the
electric drive, and additionally have a combustion engine
on board for normal driving. this means that in
reduced traffic areas, the vehicle is driven electrically,
but once the city limits have been left behind, the familiar
gasoline engine comes into play.
vehicles with a fuel cell manage to drive without any
emissions whatsoever. for example, hydrogen can be
used as the fuel that is converted into electrical energy
in the fuel cell for powering an electric motor. water
vapor is the only exhaust emitted by a fuel cell
vehicle. the special feature of all of these concepts is
that storage batteries are always needed; their energy
can be distributed to the other machines and devices
via odu battery connectors. this opens up a
broad and extremely interesting application area for
our hv connectors.
we will therefore always be involved in further development
of the various concepts and will ensure that
our customers obtain innovative solutions from odu
under economical conditions, whether today or in
the future.

Schichtdickenmessgerät
Eines der spitzengeräte unter den schichtdickenmessgeräten
verfügt über wechselbare messsonden, so
dass diese geräte für unterschiedlichste messaufgaben
eingesetzt werden können. für das hier abgebildete
messgerät stehen acht verschiedene sonden für
unterschiedliche messbereiche und grundwerkstoffe
zur Verfügung, angefangen bei den standardsonden
für einen schichtdickenmessbereich bis 1,5 mm bis hin
zu messsonden für schichtdicken bis 10 mm.
unsere Push-Pull steckverbinder odu mini-snaP bilden
hier die zuverlässige schnittstelle zur Verbindung
der einzelnen sonden und dem messgerät.
durch die zugentlastung und die Knickschutztülle
wird das Kabel geschont und die farbcodierung der
tülle erlaubt eine schnelle identifizierung der
verschiedenen sondentypen durch den anwender.

messsonden und dem gerät.

probes for measuring coating thicknesses in the range
up to 1.5 mm and extending to measurement probes
for coating thickness up to 10 mm.

Systemlösung für
mobiles Therapie system
Bei diesem mobilen therapiesystem wird ein völlig
neu entwickelter applikator für die stoßwellentherapie
eingesetzt. diese therapie stimuliert die biologischen
Prozesse im Körper, welche zur heilung
notwendig sind. sowohl schlecht heilende wunden
wie die im Volksmund „offene Beine“ genannten
wundheilungsstörungen als auch durch chirurgische
Eingriffe und Verletzungen verursachte wunden
werden erfolgreich mittels stoßwellentherapie behandelt.
durch geänderte geometrien des reflektors
im applikator werden mit dieser therapie unter
anderem auch orthopädische indikationen wie der
tennisarm, fersensporn oder Verkalkungen in den
schultersehnen erfolgreich behandelt.
an diesem innovativen therapiegerät kommt unser
modularer rechtecksteckverbinder odu mac als
sichere Verbindung zwischen dem gerät und dem
applikator zum Einsatz. auch die anspruchsvolle Konfektionierung
wird von odu übernommen.

mobile therapy system
a completely newly developed applicator is used for
shock wave therapy in this mobile therapy system.
this therapy stimulates the biological processes in the
body that are necessary for healing. Slow-to-heal
wounds, just as venous ulcers, and wounds resulting
from surgery and injuries are successfully treated with
shock wave therapy. by changing the geometry of the
reflector in the applicator, this therapy can also successfully
treat orthopedic indications such as tennis
elbow, heel spurs or calcification in the shoulder tendons.
our odu mac modular rectangular connector is used
in this innovative therapy device as the secure connection
between the device and the applicator. odu also
handles the demanding cable assembly.

Für unsere Kunden werden wir noch
besser! Optimierung des hauseigenen
Werkzeugbaus
Eine der wichtigsten supportabteilungen bei odu ist
der hauseigene werkzeugbau. hier arbeiten circa
40 facharbeiter in 7 fachgruppen in bis zu 3 schichten
daran, spritz-, stanz-, montagewerkzeuge sowie
montageautomaten in höchster Qualität und in
kürzester zeit zu fertigen. damit garantiert die
„werkzeugfirma“ die bestmöglichste „hardware“ zur
herstellung unserer steck verbinder.
doch wie schon ein altes sprichwort sagt: „wer rastet
der rostet“, deshalb hat die Betriebsleitung ein neues
Projekt parallel zum kontinuierlichen Verbesserungsprozess
(KVP) angesetzt.
das Projekt „optimierung werkzeugbau“ läuft seit
anfang oktober 2009.
Die Projektschwerpunkte sind:
• Verkürzung der durchlaufzeiten
• Kosteneffektive fertigung
• 100 % termintreue
• arbeitserleichterung
• aufwandminimierung
hierzu wurden bereits die vorhandenen abläufe
mittels wertstrom aufgenommen und auf Verschwendung
und liegezeiten analysiert, aufträge strukturiert
und die vorhandene infrastruktur untersucht.
die resultierenden Ergebnisse werden nun in einem
3-stufen-Plan umgesetzt. die erste stufe floss im
februar 2010 ein und brachte bereits die ersten
optimierungen mit sich.
des weiteren wurden von den mitarbeitern zahlreiche
innovationsvorschläge eingebracht, welche

Optimization of our internal
tool manufacturing area
one of the most important support departments at
odu is our internal tool manufacturing area. around
40 skilled workers work in 7 sections here in up to 3
shifts to manufacture injection, stamping and assembly
tools, as well as automatic assembly machines, in
the highest quality and the shortest time.
in this way, the “tool company” guarantees the best
possible hardware for producing our connectors.
but as the old saying has it, “a rolling stone gathers
no moss,” and so management has prepared a new
project to run in parallel with the continuous improvement
process (cip).
the “tool manufacturing optimization” project has
been running since the beginning of october 2009.
The key points of the project are:
• Shortened throughput times
• cost-effective production
• 100 % on-time delivery performance
• reduced workloads
• minimized expenditures
with this is mind, the existing processes have already
been recorded using value stream mapping and then
analyzed for waste and idle periods. orders have
been structured, and the existing infrastructure has
been examined. the results are now being converted
into a 3-step plan. the first step was integrated into
the work processes in february 2010 and has already
produced the first optimizations.
the employees have also contributed numerous proposals
for innovations which are currently being re-

laut Projektteam war jedoch in der Vorarbeit bisher
eines ganz wichtig: die mitarbeit aller betroffenen
„werkzeugler“, denn eines ist unabdingbar: die Verbesserungen
müssen aus dem werkzeugbau kommen
und getragen werden. dies ist zu 100 % der fall.

herr alfred mitter hat 2005 als Konstrukteur
bei odu angefangen. mittlerweile
ist er als teamleiter für den Bereich „Konstruktion
automotive“ in abstimmung

war der gelernte maschinenbautechniker

Lehrlingsaustausch
zum ersten mal wurde der jährlich stattfindende
lehrlingsaustausch zusammen mit dem steckverbinderhersteller
ept aus Peiting/Bayern durchgeführt.
zwei wochen lang hatten die beiden odu auszubildenden
franziska ludwig (techn. zeichnerin) und
andreas hoisl (werkzeugmechaniker) die möglichkeit
die arbeitsmethoden, techniken und den führungsstil
eines anderen unternehmens kennenzulernen.
im gegenzug waren von der firma ept die beiden
auszubildenden franz socher und martin atzler
(beide werkzeugmechaniker) zu Besuch bei odu.

wanderung zu den schleierwasserfällen an der
ammer standen auf dem Programm.“
an dieser stelle möchten wir uns nochmals herzlich
bei der firma ept für ihr Engagement bedanken.
Traditionelles „ODU
Weißwurstfrühstück“
auch dieses Jahr wurde traditionell am letzten
freitag vor der faschingswoche zum „odu weißwurstfrühstück“
im gasthof spirkl in mößling / mühldorf
geladen.
insgesamt haben sich 40 odu
mitarbeiter um 6:15 uhr zum
gemeinsamen weißwurstessen
getroffen. an dieser
stelle ein herzliches dankeschön
an roland auer (ltr.
Einkauf) der dieses beliebte
„kulinarische Ereignis“ bereits
zum achten mal organisiert
hat.

“the trainees also did a great job of including us in
their leisure time activities, like climbing, badminton,
etc. – we were allowed to try everything out. but the
program also included excursions, such as a tour of
neuschwanstein castle and a hike to the Schleier waterfalls
on the ammer river.”

for its extraordinary commitment.

Weisswurst breakfast”
in keeping with tradition, invitations were extended
to the “odu weisswurst breakfast” in the Spirkl
guesthouse in mößling/mühldorf on the last friday
before the beginning of lent.

„Wir sind dann mal weg!“ – ODU
Mitarbeiterinnen begehen Jakobsweg

seit über tausend Jahren ist das grab des apostels
Jakobus in santiago de compostela im nordwesten
spaniens ziel für gläubige aus der ganzen welt.
auch die drei odu mitarbeiterinnen annemarie
schallmoser, marianne grünäugl und olga steckermeier
pilgerten nach santiago und erlebten die
außergewöhnliche Kraft einer Pilgerreise.
die reise der drei startete im beschaulichen sarria/
spanien und führte durch die grünen und wasserreichen
landstriche galiciens. nach insgesamt sieben
tagen fußmarsch bei tagesetappen von durchschnittlich
20 km erreichten sie schließlich die Kathedrale in
santiago de compostela.
auch wenn die reise anstrengend war, haben doch
die positiven Erfahren deutlich überwogen und so
sind sich alle drei sicher, dass sie bald wieder eine
Pilgerreise machen werden.
Pilgerabzeichen sollen den Pilger auf dem heimweg und
auch noch in der heimat schützen. das Pilgerzeichen der
santiagopilger ist die Jakobsmuschel.
pilgrimage badges are supposed to protect the pilgrim on
the journey home and also in the homeland. the symbol for
the Santiago pilgrimage is the scallop.

“We’re on our way!” – ODU employees
walk the Way of St. James
the grave of the apostle James in Santiago de compostela
in the north-west of Spain has been a destination
for believers from around the world for more
than one thousand years.
three odu employees, annemarie Schallmoser, marianne
grünäugl and olga Steckermeier, also went on a
pilgrimage to Santiago and experienced the remarkable
power of such a journey.
the three started their journey in contemplative Sarria,
Spain, and continued through green galicia, an
area with abundant water. after a total of seven days
marching an average of 20 km a day, they finally
reached the cathedral in Santiago de compostela.
die „compostela“, die Beglaubigungsurkunde, erhält jeder
Pilger, der min. die letzten 100 km zu fuß zurückgelegt hat.
each pilgrim who has walked at least the last 100 km receives
the “compostela”, or certificate of accomplishment.
although the journey was strenuous, the positive experiences
far outweighed any negative ones, and so
all three are certain that they will be making another
pilgrimage soon.

ODU Mitarbeiterchor „In oana Dur“
nachdem der odu mitarbeiterchor bereits vor zwei
Jahren ins leben gerufen wurde, war es nun höchste
zeit, ihm endlich einen namen zu geben. alle odu
mitarbeiter konnten sich an der namenssuche beteiligen
und einen Vorschlag einreichen. andreas spirkl,
laborleiter bei odu und selbst aktives chormitglied
konnte mit seinem namensvorschlag „in oana dur“
letztendlich alle überzeugen.
zur Erklärung für alle nichtbayern: „in oana dur“
kann zum einen als „in einer dur“ aber genauso auch
als „in einer tour“ übersetzt werden.
des weiteren sind unsere odu mitarbeiter nach wie
vor zur „singkräftigen“ unterstützung des chors
herzlich willkommen!

it was finally time to name the odu employee choir,
which was established two years ago. all odu employees
were allowed to participate in the search for
a name by submitting a suggestion. andreas Spirkl,
laboratory head at odu and himself an active choir
member, ultimately succeeded in convincing everyone
with his suggestion, “in oana dur”.
an explanation for all those who don’t speak bavarian:
“in oana dur” could just as easily be translated
into german as “in einer dur” (in a major key) or as
“in einer tour” (incessantly, or the whole time).
the choir continues to welcome odu employees to
offer their “vocal” support!
