Another point is the big offer for free time activities.
The young generation is likely to go out and to forget
the school day and their problems. They need their hobbies
like football, dancing swimming, jogging and so on. Furthermore
they want to
meet their friends to
talk about everything
or to go shopping.
After that they don’t
like to read.
A problem is media
like TV, computers
and play stations
which make reading
uninteresting. The
parents are also
responsible because
they have bought computers, TVs or play stations for their
children. They aren’t able to complain about this.
As a result off this matter young pupils have more difficulties
in reading well.
For two years it has also been possible to buy a
book as an audio book to be played on your recorder.
Generally one can say that the communication industry is
reacting to their own research. As a consequence people
read even less. The exception is the internet where people
must read to get information. This kind of reading is not
like reading a book. Miriam Wurm 11b
Books vs. Electronic
The time of electronic media destroys more and
more the good old times of books and hours of reading.
The hobby of reading becomes unnecessary and that’s
really a shame. All the great authors loose the battle
against the electronic media. The youth prefers things like
play stations, PCs and of course TV. It’s easier to watch a
movie than to imagine the complicated story of a good
book.
When you are watching a movie you don’t have to
imagine, to think, you don’t need fantasy. You get the
world finished in pictures, no brain-activity, no space for
fantasy.
The portable music-player is also a new problem.
Instead of reading on the way to school or work, everyone
is listening to music.
But there are also other reasons. Just think about
the time. A day lasts only 24 hours and our world becomes
faster every day. Youths have to go to school. After
school they must do their homework and perhaps learn
something for the next lesson, there is not much time for
reading. At weekends they want to forget the stress of
the week and go out to discos and bars.
The general attitude has changed.
Often you are an outsider when you are telling somebody
that you read books. Reading becomes uncool and
is not a trend of today.
But without reading we will get some problems,
we can see that even now. The kids become more and
more unable to write their own texts. The skill of writing
and pronouncing improves while reading. Students become
worse at school and there is no way to stop it.
But of course people still read and perhaps more will
come.
You know: HOPE dies last! Robert Klose 11b
Decreased interest in reading
Today more and more pupils and students read
less than they did a few years ago. Most of the time they
say that homework and private lessons are filling up
their free time. But the fact is that the popularity of
watching TV and
playing computer
games for example
has increased lately.
For reading school
literature students
need a lot of
concentration, no
matter if they are
interested or not.
Watching TV doesn’t
need that much effort,
it just offers
relaxation. A0EC3DD75CC4/0/woman_on_couch_TV_blue.jpg
But it isn’t just the point that they don’t like to
read school literature. Reading novels, the newspaper or
even comics doesn’t seem interesting enough for spending
free time with.
Computers are even more comfortable. You just need to
switch on the computer and do some mouse-clicks to get
wherever you want and whatever you want.
