LEONI Laboratory Brake
The LEONI Laboratory Brake (LLB) has a total staff of 6 and has
more than 25 years of experience in the automotive engineering
sector for:
- automotive cables
- electrical system components
(cable ducts, extrusion-coated connectors, contacts, etc.)
- adhesive tapes
- plastics research
- failure cause analyses
- compatibility tests
- drawing up of test specifications
- special tests according to customer specifications
LEONI is in the lucky position to have two virtually equal laboratories with
strictly separated areas of responsibility.
The laboratory in Roth deals almost exclusively with development tasks
within the LEONI group.
The LLB, which has been part of the LEONI group since the beginning
of 2000, has been accredited in 07/2000 and acts as external and internal
service provider. The LLB only carries out tests on order, primarily to achieve
product releases from car manufacturers.
The LLB is impartial and uninfluenceable in its thoughts and actions –
a prerequisite for achieving the accreditation status.
This neutrality has been assured by LEONI AG (management) in a declaration
of impartiality and has been implemented such from an organisational
point of view that it is indeed maintained. The LLB is an independent
central function in the business unit cables, reporting to top management
on central quality management.
Accreditation by the DAP (Deutsches Akkreditierungssystem Prüfwesen
GmbH) has confirmed the technical competence of LLB-staff and the
impartiality and uninfluenceability of the LLB.
The LLB has been accredited by the DAP for more than 160 specifications
and customer regulations in accordance with DIN EN ISO 17025. The scope
of accreditation inter alia includes standards and specifications by the
following vehicle manufacturers:
- DaimlerChrysler
- Volkswagen
- BMW
- Ford
- Fiat
- Renault
- Japanese standards etc.
Apart from development-related tests and sampling, the laboratory also
takes on orders for annual requalification tests on cables, materials testing
of synthetic materials, analyses and tests on finished products in accordance
with specifications.
Testing procedures include mechanical, climatic, thermal, electric, environmental
and rheological tests as well as ageing tests on polymeric materials
and components manufactured from heterogeneous materials.
It is also possible to carry out special tests, e.g.
- Suitability of automotive cables for ultrasonic welding.
- Movement simulation (e.g. wheel suspension, door area, tailgates)
and checking the suitability of components (e.g. sleeves, cables).
- Compatibility tests (e.g. between different synthetic materials)
Apart from the main client LEONI – in the main the business units cable
and electrical systems – the following well-known companies are among
the LLB’s customers:
- Siemens VDO Automotive
- Draka
- Kabelwerk Lausitz
- Silitherm (Italy)
- Magcode (Germany)
