LEONI automotive cables
with ADR/GGVS-approval
With directive 94/55/EC, the EU has committed its member states
to apply the ADR (which only regulates international transportation) both
on a national, intra-community and cross-border basis from the 01.01.97
onwards. This directive creates a standard basis from which the free
movement of goods within the community when transporting hazardous
substances can be controlled.
The ADR regulates all aspects of the transportation of hazardous goods,
e.g.: - classification of materials and articles
- safe packaging
- means of transportation
- execution of transportation
Apart from the requirements that have to be met by any means of transportation,
special requirements are placed on these means of transport.
One area of these special requirements deals with the electrical equipment
of vehicles. The component identification number issued by the Association
of Technical Inspection Agencies (VdTÜV), TÜ.EGG (Technical Inspection.
Electrical equipment. Hazardous substances) documents compliance
with the requirements on electric cables for application in vehicles used
for the transportation of hazardous substances made by the ADR. The ordinance
on the road transportation of hazardous substances (GGVS) contains
the ADR requirements for the national sector. LEONI manufactures
these cables with ADR/GGVS-approval.
The cables are multi-core sheathed cables with different insulating
materials used for cores and sheaths. As a rule, cores are thin-walled insulated
automotive wires and the sheath geometry suits the respective application.
Two new families of electric cables, intended to be used in transportation
units for hazardous substances, have been assessed for
their agreement with the requirements contained in paragraph
9.2.2 ADR and have subsequently been released.
Round cables make up the one group of new cables, while the second
group consists of flat cables. In all cases, cores and sheaths are made of
high-quality PVC materials, which permit thin-walled designs.
All cables with ADR/GGVS-approval manufactured at LEONI meet the
requirements for an area of application ranging from –40 °C to + 90 °C.
The scope of types comprises FLRY in a 2- to 15-core design and FLYYF in a
2-core design.
Two new LEONI product lines have been assessed for their agreement
with the requirements contained in paragraph 9.2.2 ADR by the TÜV
Southern Germany and have subsequently been released.
One of the product lines consists of FLRYY round cables with a 2- to
15-core design. In all cases, cores and sheaths consist of high-quality PVC
materials, which permit thin-walled designs. The second group consists of
FLYYF 2-core flat cables.
All new cables meet the requirements for an area of application ranging
from –40 ° to + 90 °C.
In addition to these new product lines, LEONI has already obtained ADR/
GGVS-approvals for multi-core sheathed cables with thin-walled insulated
PVC-cores and PUR-sheaths. For special requirements, a polypropyleneinsulated
data pair has been integrated in these cables.
