of the democratic institutions. Because of the interdependence between the European countries
in financial and economic aspects and the fact that financial support is combined with harsh
measures, this crisis will be also a difficult test for the very pursuit of European integration and
for its legitimacy in the eyes of citizens. Combined with an already existing decrease in political
participation and the rise of populist movements in many European countries, we are facing
major challenges. Citizenship education can be seen as one of the instruments to built resilience
in times of crisis. This Seminar will explore two main research questions: What are the effects of
the crisis on young citizens in the age of 16-25, ( e.g rights at risk, unemployment, free
movement across the EU, test case European integration, changing lifestyles, developing
solidarity and forms of resilience, socio-economic background) ? What are the elements in the
curricula of upper secondary education that build resilience in times of crisis and what are the
suggestions for improvement based on the outcomes of the first research question ( e.g. sense
of identity- national and European-, self-confidence, skills and knowledge, difference between
lower and higher educated youngsters). Methods with regard to the first research question:
document analyses, literature reviews, statistical data, newspapers, interviews youngsters.
Methods with regard to the second research question: analyses of curricula, programs,
schoolbooks and lessons in upper secondary schools ( 16-18/19) and analyses findings first
research question. This Seminar is part of a European project: topics under the umbrella of the
same title will be researched and discussed by students at the Universities of Athens (Greece),
Groningen(The Netherlands), Madrid (Spain), Stavanger (Norway) and Rijeka (Croatia). The
participants are looking for possibilities to publish the results.

Kommentar Welche Regeln für das gesellschaftliche Subsystem gelten, in dem sich sämtlicher materieller
Wohlstand begründet, ist von zentraler Bedeutung für die Individuen. Verglichen mit dem
Stellenwert, der ihr für die Lebenssituationen und die Lebenschancen der Bürgerinnen und
Bürger zukommt, kann die Wirtschaftsordnung allerdings als ein von der Politischen Bildung
vernachlässigtes Lernfeld angesehen werden. Das Seminar zielt darauf ab, das Potential zu
erschließen, das der Wirtschaftsordnung und ihrer thematischen Aspekte für die schulisch
vermittelte Politische Bildung zukommt. Dafür wird die Wirtschaftsordnung zunächst aus
fachwissenschaftlicher Perspektive in den Blick genommen um dann - ausgehend von den
zentralen Aufgaben und Zielsetzungen der Politischen Bildung - danach zu fragen, wie sie als
