Ziel: Mooting is a traditional exercise for
law students which trains the skills of advocacy.
Nowadays, mooting is practised
internationally in a number of global student
competitions. This course aims to
improve student oral presentation skills,
face-to-face communication, pronunciation,
sentence structure and vocabulary
using the vehicle of weekly mooting exercises.
Inhalt: The course will introduce students
to the rudiments of mooting style, structure
and language. Students read case
scenarios and prepare skeleton argu-
ments on a weekly basis. The arguments
will be presented within a formal mooting
format with students taking on the roles
of counsel and judges. The case scenarios
will concern legal issues of general
interest such as consent to medical treatment,
consent to the use of force e.g. in
sports, the right to privacy e.g. in the press.
