entertainment
the summer season
is coming to an end,
and for Superyacht
Distribution this
means time to
reflect on the past
few months.
Superyacht Distribution
not only distributes various
publications throughout
the Mediterranean, we
also have an SOS delivery
service for long haul or last minute requests
to yachts.
Have you ever considered what a delivery
driver must go through to get products to
individual yachts during peak season? Here
are a few regular occurrences (some nice,
some not so nice), that we need to
overcome to ensure our clients’ goods are
received where the yacht needs it, when the
yacht needs it.
Inside Superyacht
Distribution
1: SOUTH OF FRANCE – TRAFFIC JAMS
From mid-July to the end of August, congestion
on the roads increases 10-fold. Campervans,
foreign cars, motorbikes, you name it - they
are all lured to the south of France. Your
average trip from Nice to Monaco along the
coast can easily double in time. So there is a
good reason why an agent or provisioner is
asking if it’s possible to send your tender to
Ste Maxime rather than to the capitennarie of
St. Tropez … it’s called three additional
hours in 35 degree heat!
2: ITALY – FAKE MOTORWAY POLICE
The Rome/Naples stretch of motorway is
notorious for thieves trying their chances with
foreign vans transporting goods to yachts.
While driving through the night to make sure
that a delivery for 8am in Naples is met, there
have been a few occurrences of foreign registered
vans being pulled over by fake police attempting
to hand out fines which can be settled in cash,
the confiscation of goods or generally just
stealing phones, passport, cash … whatever
they can get their hands on.
Those in the know do not stop for anyone
trying to flag them over. Others unfortunately
aren’t that lucky. Deliveries still get done
while the yacht is blissfully unaware of what
the driver has had to overcome!
3: IBIZA – NO PARTY FOR THE PARTY ISLAND
Arriving on a party island, ready to party, but
having just one hour to deliver and get back
on the ferry. No, that is not fun!
4: CORSICA – MAFIA
We all know that the Corsicans like to say “Ici
ce n’est pas la France, ici c’est la Corse.” The
special relationship that Corsica has with
France unfortunately also affects deliveries
to the island.
Drivers can be pulled over by various individuals,
some encountering verbal incidents, some
physical and some involving illegal arms.
That is why several service providers do not
jump with joy when a yacht requests a delivery
to the Ile de Beaute.
When one of the key agents in Corsica was
asked his view on this, he shrugged and
responded: “well this is Corsica and that’s
how it works.” So apparently, this is the norm
in Corsica. Great!
5: SICILY - HOT, HOT AND HOT
After a 21-hour non-stop drive to get to the
island, you face another two hours journey to
get to the actual yacht. It is hot, it is very hot,
you’re tired, and you are greeted by a crew
member asking why you are 30 minutes late.
So next time a delivery of goods has arrived
outside your sparkling clean white vessel,
you may like to say an extra thank you, or
offer a cold bottle of water to the guy who
has just managed to make sure your delivery
arrives on time.
Owner of Superyacht Distribution
Lee@superyacht-distribution.com
Joy, freedom, luxury – nothing compares
to the exclusive world of yachting. No
two yachts are identical, no two
yachtsmen (or yachtswomen) have the
same tastes and wishes. And each ship is
a unique expression of her owner’s
personality – down to the finest detail.
True to this standard, the onboard
entertainment specialists at
Home & Marine Electronic Systems
have defined the art of individual
audiovisual solutions for yachts.
Based in the northern German city of Bremen
and represented in Antigua, Malta, Spain and
the USA, Home & Marine (H&M) is a single source
for top-quality entertainment, communication
and security. The company is entirely independent
of manufacturers and can always offer the best
technologies on the international market. Its
sole commitment is to the goal of turning yacht
owners’ dreams into reality – or as Managing
Partner Günter Trempnau puts it: “Entertainment
that’s better than live!”
Time-honored values, cutting-edge expertise
H&M has built its outstanding reputation on
traditional engineering values: performance,
reliability, robustness. At the same time, the
electronics experts can always deliver the
newest technologies from manufacturers all
over the world. They also place great importance
on future compatibility, preparing today’s
systems for tomorrow’s upgrade. Clients know
that H&M’s installations are investments in the
future, which pay off in huge savings when it
comes to introducing new technologies.
WORLD PREMIER AT THE MONACO YACHT SHOW
An excellent example of this forward-looking
approach is a dance-floor system that reacts to
music, creating an unforgettable multisensory
experience. The floor vibrates in response to
bass frequencies and offers the feel of a
high-volume disco sound. Yet there is no need
to turn up the volume above normal listening
levels for the full experience, so those in
neighboring cabins won’t be disturbed.
H&M is presenting this worldwide first at the
Monaco Yacht Show, 24th to 27th September,
stand No. QD 36.
