Jahr über Aktionen geben, die sich mit dem Thema
„Unser Museum der Zukunft“ beschäftigen.

Art and Culture
historical artefacts offers a fascinating insight into
the city’s ancient and early history and into its
historical and economic development and into the
emergence of a regional culture. In particular, the
archaeological section of the museum has a very
interesting collection of finds from the military camp
in Neuss, founded in ca. 16. B.C. The soldiers’ weapons
and armour, the inscriptions on tiles, ceramic pots
and votive stones, the glassware, statues of gods and
medical instruments – all these convey an authentic

impression of the everyday life of the Roman garrison
on the Rhine.
The extensive programme of celebrations for the
100 th anniversary of the Clemens-Sels-Museum
begins in January with a grand opening event. The
official ceremony will take place in the summer. First-
class exhibitions will form the highlights of the year
of celebrations. The project „Hunters of a Lost History“
will take visitors on a journey through time, back to
the beginnings of the search for witnesses to our
own history. The Clemens-Sels-Museum will be the
first museum in Germany to show the extensive
exhibition of the exceptional Symbolist, Gustave
Moreau, as the teacher of Henri Matisse, the most
famous representative of the Fauves movement, and
his circle. In addition to the numerous events and
workshops which have a direct connection with the
exhibitions, there will also be a number of activities
around the theme of „Our future museum“.
