MONOPHONISCHES VIRELAI
V 25/22
Deine Treue, deine Ehre wahren,
den Frieden suchen, gehorchen
dich ehren, dir dienen, dich achten
dich anbeten bis zum Tod,
Frau ohne Makel.
I.
So sehr liebe ich dich, so wahrhaftig,
dass man eher
tiefe Meere austrocknen
und ihre Wellen zurückhalten könnte,
als mich davon abzuhalten
dich zu lieben.
Liebe ohne Falsch; denn meine Gedanken,
mein Erinnern, meine Freude, mein Sehnen
sind allzeit auf dich gerichtet,
dich, die ich nicht verlassen
und vergessen kann.
II.
Es gibt keine Freude oder Freuen,
noch irgendetwas Gutes, das man fühlen,
sich vorstellen kann,
das es wert wäre zu ersehnen, wenn deine Süße meine
Bitternis lindert.
Dich preisen, dich anbeten, dich achten,
alles ertragen, alles von dir fernhalten,
alles erdulden, zählt mir mehr
als jede Anerkennung.
Deine Treue, deine Ehre wahren, ...
Du bist ein reiner Saphir,
MONOPHONIC VIRELAI
V 25/22
I want to stay faithful, guard your honor,
Seek peace, obey
Fear, serve and honor you,
Until death,
Peerless Lady.
I.
For I love you so much, truly,
that one could sooner dry up
the deep sea
and hold back its waves
than I could constrain myself
from loving you,
without falsehood; for my thoughts
my memories, my pleasures
and my desires are perpetually
of you, whom I cannot leave
or even briefly forget.
II.
There is no joy or pleasure
or any other good that one could feel
or imagine
which does not seem to me worthless whenever your
sweetness wants
to sweeten my bitterness.
Therefore I want to praise and adore and fear you,
suffer everything, experience everything, endure
everything more than I desire any reward.
I want to stay faithful . . .
III.
You are the true sapphire
