9. Effective Vocal Interventions
� Singing melodies as carrier of emotional intent (Chong, Ridder, Baker, DeBruijn et al,
Shoemark, Dileo, Uhlig) and the use of toning can produce soundwaves which
correspond with chakras and resonant chambers of the body affecting the body’s organs
(Loewy).
� Singing is a spiritual space capable of improving well-being with the potential to
stimulate counter-transference reactions (Summers, Kondo, Pedersen) .
� Singing has the potential to exercise muscle groups involved in speaking as well as
stimulating the automatic production of words (Tamplin, Baker, DeBruijn et al) .
� Therapist’s singing matches the client’s breathing the musical phrases may serve as a
musical “iso” thereby slowing down his rate of breathing (Dileo).
