2008
Adescription of this years spot of the Euro – Neusiedlersee,
Podersdorf, Land of castles, Austria – was given in just a
few words: “steppe sea with lots of wind”. That sounded
like rough weather and demanding conditions. Lookind back one
can say: without doubt there are demanding conditions at Neusiedlersee,
but no rough weather at any time during the Euro-week.
The raincape I brought just in case wasn’t needed and laid in the
boot of our car the whole week.
Most participants arrived at Sailing Club Podersdorf North on
Thursday evening. A wonderful summers evening – at six o’clock
still 30° Celsius. The first impression of the organization: perfect
and really nice. You are personally welcomed at the entrance and
then there’s a 30 square metre big parking lot for every team marked
on a huge lawn, so everyone can park his trailer right next to
his ship.
Summer
holidays
in the “Land
of castles”
Friday: Brigthly sunshine, hot summer temperature and
wind (you also could say: damned much wind). Many set
up their ships, who finishes goes sailing, measurement begins
at 1 p.m. And that’s the point to thank Alex, Wolfgang,
Willi, Carsten and Stefan for doing this job with endurance
and strong nerves again and again, making it possible for
all of us to sail under championship conditions!
Saturday: Again we are spoiled with lots of sunshine and
wind. Some inofficial training regattas are held on the lake.
Sunday: Slowly it becomes serious. At 1 p.m. practise race
under 3 to 4 wind forces. 4.30 p.m. meeting at Podersdorf
downtown for the marching up of nations. The mayor and
the countrys captain welcome us in front of a fully set up
K1 (the sun is still shining brightly). Back at the club the
Euro is inaugurated with a parade of flags and a new Topcat
song. 92 ships (41 K1, 28 K2 and 24 K3) with 159 sailors
from seven nations start at this Topcat-Euro.
