Biotechnology is truly a boom market in Austria. Activity in this field is not limited to
Vienna, as a great deal is being done in the states also.
has been made toward expansion of the patent service and
patent competence as well as in greater activity in the
training and education sector.
Around the world, Vienna is ranked 37 in biotech research;
the list is headed by Boston, New York and London.
The biotech financing network has proven itself, for example,
with private venture-capital funds, BIT, Bürges and the
Vienna Business Agency (Wiener Wirtschaftsförderungsfonds).
The latter recognized the signs of the times years
ago, initiating several cooperation projects, for example
with the biotechnology metropolis of Boston.
In addition to securing start-up financing for young companies,
market- and performance-oriented research is vital.
Also important are smooth technology transfer from science
to trade and industry, a well-developed infrastructure and a
sufficient number of qualified workers. Research in human
and veterinary medicine has a long tradition in Vienna, and

Weltweit betrachtet liegt Wien als Biotech-Forschungsstätte
auf Platz 37, das Ranking wird von Boston, New York
und London angeführt. Bewährt hat sich dabei das Biotech-
Finanzierungsnetzwerk u. a. mit privaten Venture-Capital-
Fonds, BIT, Bürges oder Wiener Wirtschaftsförderungsfonds.
Dieser hatte schon vor Jahren die „Zeichen der Zeit“
erkannt und u. a. Kooperationen mit der Biotechnologiemetropole
Boston initiiert.
Neben der Sicherstellung der Startfinanzierung für junge
Unternehmen ist eine markt- und leistungsorientierte Forschung
