Learning outcomes<br />

- The course should give students detailed insights into current critical management issues and strategies<br />

in automobile industry, especially with focus on retail<br />

- Moreover industry specifics and structures are taught to prepare students for further studies or work in<br />

the automobile industry<br />

- Case Studies and presentation are used to critically reflect management behavior and strategies in<br />

automobile industry<br />

- The history of car construction and relation to the market<br />

- Product policies based on the market power of the firms<br />

- Automotive distribution and retail<br />

- European Block Exemption Regulation and ecological matters<br />

- Theoretical input and guest speaker<br />

- Exam (50%)<br />

- Presentation (37.5%)<br />

Assessment criteria in detail<br />

Participation:<br />

The interactive character of the course is highly dependent on student participation. Hence, the degree of oral<br />

participation will be considered in the overall performance evaluation. Pure presence does not automatically lead<br />

to a good grade. Active participation in discussions will especially be considered in the evaluation process.<br />

Presentation (Team):<br />

Students will have to work on presentations in groups and present and discuss their findings in class.<br />

Exam:<br />

The course closes with a 45 minute final exam in which both the relevant readings and class discussions are<br />

assessed.<br />

Average Workload<br />

+ Lecture (incl. presentations) = 32 hours<br />

+ Preparation and Postprocessing (100% of Lecture – including preparation presentation) = 32 hours<br />

+ Effort for final exam incl. preparation / case studies = 86 hours<br />

= Average Workload = 150 hours<br />
