Kurzbeschreibung
Typen sozialer Innovationen nachhaltigen Konsums abgeleitet.
Abstract
A sustainable organisation of society requires a structural change of consumption patterns.
The unsustainable but taken-for-granted practices common today must be replaced
with sustainable alternatives. Hereby a great potential for change is associated with social
innovations. Social innovations are expected to respond to societal problems and provide
solutions that enable sustainable consumption. The research project “Sustainable consumption
through social innovation – concepts and practice” defined basic characteristics
of social innovations for sustainable consumption and combined them in a typology. This
typology outlined specific measures of support for each type of social innovation. Results
showed that a broad range of investigated social innovations can be characterised by the
degree of innovativeness, personal engagement, communality and formality. Building
upon this baseline, five types could be described: “Do-It-Together”, “Strategic Consumption”,
“Sharing Communities”, “Do-It-Yourself” and “Utility enhancing Consumption”. In
association with the typology, support strategies were worked out. In addition, overall
strategies were identified that could potentially promote innovativeness in the field of
sustainable consumption in general. The results were presented in a manual. With this
means change agents that develop and promote sustainable alternatives for consumption
practices, as well as stakeholders involved in the economy, civil society and politics were
addressed.
