This two-movement work for trumpet and
strings is part of a B flat Serenade in seven
movements, where it forms the third and fourth
movements. The solo clarino part is pitched
very high at times, and at one point in the Adagio
it reaches a note two octaves above violin A!
Werner Rainer supplies suggestions for cadenzas

This concerto is an Austrian work with Brucknerian
overtones. The first movement concerns itself
with the working-out of diatonic-chromatic, rather
neutral melodic fragments; the second is a bucolic
scherzo; the third a collage of fanfares and dancelike
and fugato sections. All share a common melodic
motive. The piano reduction is difficult and dissonant,
and there is a lively interplay between the
