The capital of the Balearic Islands is located in the south
of Mallorca and stands for a cosmopolitan, mediterranean
lifestyle. Palma is the centre of logistics of the Balearic
Islands, home to the largest port, the international airport
and a university. Throughout the year, the city offers cultural
diversity for every taste. The Old Town impresses with
historic palaces and some remaining Arabic buildings as
well as with an excellent gastronomy. Ten Michelin-Star
restaurants can be found on Mallorca, almost all of which are
in Palma. The tree lined Passeig del Born is the most elegant
street in Palma and invites to watch the colourful hustle and
bustle of Palma’s 400,000 inhabitants, while relaxing on the
terrace of a café or strolling along the windows of designer
shops and art galleries. If you continue to walk through the
winding streets past Palma’s landmark the cathedral “La
Seu”, you reach the kilometre-long harbour promenade,
which hosts the biggest yacht harbour in the Mediterranean
Sea. The fashionable Santa Catalina is home to lively
alleys with second-hand bookshops, exotic restaurants
and artsy shops. Enjoy interesting gastronomic fusions or a
coffee from a Mallorcan roastery. Follow the locals and you’ll
come across markets offering local specialities and small
boutique shops selling antique furniture and art. Yet Palma is
changing. The government of the Balearic Islands has begun
to initiate a more sustainable and environmentally friendly
future for the capital. Green zones, a tramway and more
space for cyclists will create a more livable and peaceful
Palma.
La capital de las Islas Baleares está situada en el sur de
Mallorca y representa un estilo de vida cosmopolita
y mediterráneo. Palma es el centro logístico de las
Islas Baleares y alberga el mayor puerto, el aeropuerto
internacional y una universidad. Durante todo el año, la
ciudad ofrece diversidad cultural para todos los gustos. El
casco antiguo impresiona con grandes palacios y algunos
edificios árabes que aún se conservan, así como con una
excelente gastronomía. En Mallorca hay diez restaurantes
con estrellas Michelin, casi todos en Palma. El arbolado
Passeig del Born es la calle más elegante de Palma e invita
a observar el colorido ajetreo de los 400.000 habitantes de
Palma, mientras se relaja en la terraza de un café o se pasea
por los escaparates de las tiendas de diseño y las galerías
de arte. Si sigue caminando por las sinuosas calles, pasando
por la emblemática catedral “La Seu”, llegará al kilométrico
paseo marítimo, que alberga el mayor puerto deportivo
del Mediterráneo. La popular zona de Santa Catalina
tiene animadas callejuelas con librerías de segunda mano,
restaurantes exóticos y tiendas artísticas. Disfrute de
interesantes fusiones gastronómicas o de un café de una
torrefacción mallorquina. Siga a los Palmesinos y encontrará
mercados que ofrecen especialidades locales y pequeñas
tiendas boutique que venden muebles antiguos y arte. Sin
embargo, Palma está cambiando. El gobierno de las Islas
Baleares ha comenzado a iniciar un futuro más sostenible
y respetuoso con el medio ambiente para la capital. Zonas
verdes, un tranvía y más espacio para los ciclistas crearán
una Palma más habitable y tranquila.

beherbergt den größten Hafen, den internationalen Flughafen
und eine Universität. Ganzjährig bietet die Stadt kulturelle
Vielfalt für jeden Geschmack. Die Altstadt beeindruckt mit
Stadtpalästen und gut erhaltenen Gebäuden aus arabischer
Zeit, sowie mit einer hervorragenden Gastronomie. Zehn
Michelin-Sterne-Restaurants gibt es auf Mallorca, fast
alle davon in Palma. Der von Bäumen gesäumte Passeig
del Born ist die eleganteste Straße Palmas und lädt dazu
ein, das bunte Treiben der 400.000 Einwohner Palmas zu
beobachten, während man sich auf der Terrasse eines Cafés
entspannt oder an den Schaufenstern der Designerläden und
Kunstgalerien entlangschlendert. Spaziert man weiter durch
die verwinkelten Gassen, vorbei an Palmas Wahrzeichen,
der Kathedrale „La Seu“, erreicht man die kilometerlange
Hafenpromenade, an der sich der größte Yachthafen des
Mittelmeers befindet. Santa Catalina beherbergt lebhafte
Gassen mit Antiquariaten, exotischen Restaurants und
Kunstläden. Genießen Sie interessante gastronomische
Fusionen oder einen Kaffee aus einer mallorquinischen
Rösterei. Folgen Sie den Einheimischen und Sie werden auf
Märkte stoßen, die lokale Spezialitäten anbieten, und auf
kleine Boutiquen, die antike Möbel und Kunst verkaufen.
Doch Palma ist im Wandel begriffen. Die Regierung der
Balearen hat damit begonnen, eine nachhaltigere und
umweltfreundlichere Zukunft für die Hauptstadt in die Wege
zu leiten. Grünzonen, eine Straßenbahn und mehr Platz für
Radfahrer sollen ein lebenswerteres und freundlicheres
Palma schaffen.
