mich auf diesen <strong>Winter</strong>. Nach meinem letzten Schienund<br />
Wadenbeinbruch im Dezember 2020 bin ich nun<br />
endlich «metallfrei» und fit.<br />
Maria: Mich beeindruckt der Durchhaltewillen<br />
meiner Schwester. Ich leide bei ihren Verletzungen<br />
natürlich mit. Ich weiss aber auch, dass jeder<br />
Rückschlag sie stärker gemacht hat.<br />
Was wünschst du, Maria, deiner Schwester für die<br />
nächste Saison?<br />
Maria: Allem voran wünsche ich Eliane einen<br />
unfallfreien <strong>Winter</strong>, in dem sie endlich ihr Können<br />
unter Beweis stellen darf. Für uns beide ist die Freude<br />
am Schneesport das Wichtigste. Daher hoffe ich,<br />
dass Eliane diese beibehalten kann.<br />
Welche Ziele setzt du, Eliane, dir selber? Und auf<br />
welchem Podest würdest du Maria diesen <strong>Winter</strong><br />
gerne sehen?<br />
Eliane: Eine Saison ohne Unfall und Verletzung ist ein<br />
gutes Ziel. Darüber hinaus möchte ich im Europacup<br />
vorne mitfahren können. Und Maria würde ich am<br />
liebsten zu einem Podestplatz an einem Skilanglauf-<br />
Continental-Cup (COC) gratulieren.<br />

Where does your love of snow sports come from?<br />
Eliane: We inherited it. Our parents are ski instructors,<br />
so we have been skiing since the age of two. Whether<br />
downhill skiing, freeriding, ski touring or cross-country<br />
skiing, both us and our two brothers simply love<br />
being out in the snow.<br />
Maria: We grew up in Hospental. In the Ursern Valley,<br />
it’s almost impossible to escape the allure of the<br />
mountains and the great outdoors. The valley comes<br />
into its own especially in winter. Being outside in all<br />
weathers is incredibly beautiful.<br />
How is it that you feel at home with multiple<br />
disciplines?<br />
Maria: We both started off downhill skiing. I also<br />
competed in FIS (International Ski Federation)<br />
downhill races until I graduated from the sports<br />
secondary school in Engelberg. However, at some point,<br />
the effort and the return no longer added up for me.<br />
But I couldn’t go without sport altogether. I felt that I<br />
was missing something. And since I had always<br />
enjoyed endurance training, I tried cross-country<br />
skiing. It was not an easy task, but I don’t regret the<br />
change. I’m looking forward to continuing to hone<br />
my skating technique this winter.<br />
