Night ride on the Bergeralm
Rapid downhill runs under floodlight
In the office during the day and on the slopes at night. Barbara is a
passionate skier and frequently takes the opportunity to magically
carve her tracks in the snow on the Bergeralm in Steinach after work.
Night skiing is something she particularly enjoys with friends.
THE PERFECT START TO THE WEEKEND
It’s Friday, 18:30. There are already some enthusiasts waiting at the valley
station for the first gondola ascent. Those who are fast enough can
conjure up the first turns on the freshly groomed slope - something that
is, of course, a special pleasure. Two hours of powering along the perfectly
groomed slopes, then a cup of tea to warm up and a snack in the
panorama restaurant, a super start to the weekend.
With 11 km of illuminated slopes and five different descents, the
Bergeralm Ski & Leisure Arena is one of the largest night skiing arenas in
Europe. There’s also a 5 km long toboggan track.
The ski resort is open every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from
18:30 - 21:30, the floodlights stay on until 22:00, offering enthusiastic skiers
the chance to take a few turns and get some fresh air into their lungs
even after work or school.
Barbara is amazed by the good visibility that you have on the floodlit
slopes. “You can usually see even better than during the day, especially
when it’s foggy or cloudy,” she says. “There’s also hardly any waiting time
at the lifts and you have plenty of space for free turns, since there are no
ski courses and toddlers milling about on the night slopes.
AFFORDABLE PRICES
The prices for night skiing are also affordable. An evening ticket costs €
28 for adults from 18:30 and € 26.20 from 19:30. There is a 50% discount
for children born between 2008 and 2015 and a discount for youths and
seniors.
TIP
For all those who enjoy open-air sports at night, there are also
some wonderful natural ice rinks, which are illuminated, in addition
to night skiing and tobogganing. The largest of these can be
found at the entrance to the village of St. Jodok.
