With a degree in art from Iowa State University firmly in hand, Bill Ersland knocked on the door of the established
design firm Hellman Associates in Waterloo, Iowa. There, for ten years, he honed his skills
working with a talented group of illustrators and designers whose clients included some of the country’s
largest corporations, magazines, and publishers. In 1983 Ersland moved to Stillwater, Minnesota, and
embarked on a prolific freelance career. His clients include Scholastic, Deere & Company, Philadelphia’s
Inquirer magazine, Perfection Learning Publishing, and a variety of advertising agencies throughout the
Midwest. A member of the Society of Illustrators, Ersland also exhibits through a local gallery featuring
historical and Western art.
Lisa Ferlic graduated from the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire with a B.F.A. (emphasis in graphic design).
She works and lives in Seattle as a freelance illustrator and graphic designer.
Sarajo Frieden is an artist, illustrator, and designer living in Los Angeles where she cross-pollinates happily
between traditional paint media and digital software programs. Her work has been featured in numerous
award books, such as American Illustration 21 & 22, 100 Best Album Covers, and Illustration
West. Recently featured in Adobe Master Class: Illustrator Illuminated, published by Adobe Press,
Frieden’s prolific illustrations appear nationally and internationally. She’s currently illustrating a book for
Klutz Press.
Born in Japan, Tuko Fujisaki grew up in southern California. At first a sun worshipper, she discovered she
loved New York and cafés and started wearing a lot of black—not a good look at the beach. After living
in New York, then New Mexico, she finally came to her senses and found a home in Hawaii—the green,
the ocean, the sun, and gentle lifestyle. Tuko started her art career as a designer, but quickly moved to
illustration because she found it more rewarding. She also found lots of jobs, from corporations to magazine
work, educational stuff, even TV. The best reward has been doing what she loves! Tuko Fujisaki
