Creativity and Productivity ?
workshop on cultivation of Mushroom was
A organised at GC CRPF Muzaffarpur on
the occasion of Senior Citizens' Day for, members
of CWWA, in Group Centre, CRPF Muzaffarpur
on 6th May, 2012 in coordination with Rajendra
Agriculture University as part of National
Agriculture Development Plan. In this workshop
Dr. Daya Ram with his team of scientists educated
and demonstrated the method of Mushroom
cultivation as part of employment generation.
Workshop on Mushroom production:-
During the workshop, the team emphasised that
Mushroom cultivation needs least of space and
water. Its use can counter malnutrition and at
the same time it can help in recycling agro wastes
which helps to convert carbon into protein. Its
commercial cultivation can give financial security
with small capital investments. It can be done on
part time basis.
Dr. Daya Ram with Commandant GC Muzaffarpur in Workshop
In rural areas, due to lack of awareness, there
is insufficient consumption of mushroom as
nutritional source. Hence there is a need to give
wide publicity about the nutritional and medicinal
qualities of mushroom to create awareness
Ladies and children learning how to grow mushroom !
Mushroom is a low calorie food as it has got
90% of water in it, 2.5 % to 3 % of protein, 4 % to
6% carbohydrates and only 0.4% to 0.6% of fats. It
is suited to the patients of diabetes as a low calorie
and high protein food and being less in cholesterol
is also good for heart patients. Its protein value is
at par with fish, meat or chicken and it could be
an alternative to the non vegetarian foods. It is a
great source of nutrition to children and pregnant
women.
Mushroom Cultivation and Countering
Naxalism:-
After experience of organising Workshop on
Mushroom Cultivation for CWWA members, I
just had an idea that we can organise Mushroom
Cultivation Programme in rural Bihar as part of
Civic Action Programme, in coordination with
Rajendra Agriculture University, PUSA. I had a
discussion with Dr. Daya Ram of PUSA University
and he appreciated the idea with special emphasis
on naxal hit villages.
It was estimated that with a budget of
approximately one lac rupees, one battalion can
create awareness about Mushroom growing in
