Social benefits consist of transfers, in cash or in kind, by social protection schemes<br />
to households and individuals to relieve them of the burden of a defined set of risks<br />
or needs. The functions (or risks) are: sickness/health care, disability, old age,<br />
survivors, family/children, unemployment, housing, social exclusion not elsewhere<br />

Current expenditure on health measures the economic resources spent by a country<br />
on health care services and goods, including administration and insurance. Total<br />
expenditure on health care represents current expenditure on health enlarged by the<br />

family, promotion of employment, unemployment, housing, education and general<br />
neediness), made through collectively schemes, or outside such schemes by<br />

2008<br />
GDP (gross domestic product) is an indicator <strong>for</strong> a nation’s economic situation. It<br />
reflects the total value of all goods and services produced less the value of goods<br />
and services used <strong>for</strong> intermediate consumption in their production. Expressing<br />
GDP in PPS (purchasing power standards) eliminates differences in price levels<br />
between countries, and calculations on a per head basis allows <strong>for</strong> the comparison of<br />
economies significantly different in absolute size.<br />
