2008
Social benefits consist of transfers, in cash or in kind, by social protection schemes
to households and individuals to relieve them of the burden of a defined set of risks
or needs. The functions (or risks) are: sickness/health care, disability, old age,
classified (n.e.c).
Eurostat (n.d.)
expenditure on capital formation of health care providers.
Social benefits (% of GDP)
2008
Social benefits (other than social transfers in kind) paid by government (ESA95
code D.62) are transfers to households, in cash or in kind, intended to relieve them
from the financial burden of a number of risks or needs (by convention: sickness,
invalidity, disability, occupational accident or disease, old age, survivors, maternity,
family, promotion of employment, unemployment, housing, education and general
neediness), made through collectively schemes, or outside such schemes by
government units.
Eurostat (n.d.)
GDP per inhabitant in PPS
2008
GDP (gross domestic product) is an indicator for a nation’s economic situation. It
reflects the total value of all goods and services produced less the value of goods
and services used for intermediate consumption in their production. Expressing
GDP in PPS (purchasing power standards) eliminates differences in price levels
between countries, and calculations on a per head basis allows for the comparison of
economies significantly different in absolute size.
