14 Food & Beverage Update BY DAR GIBBONS, CCM FOOD & BEVERAGE DIRECTOR Mother’s Day Celebrated at Shadows We are excited to report on the wonderful response to our first Mother’s Day Champagne Brunch, hosted at the Shadows Restaurant. The entire kitchen staff went above and beyond to set the ambiance with their pink and white linen, along with fresh flowers on each table. The menu featuring Prime Rib, Turkey, Tilapia Vera Cruz, and Chicken Pomodoro was masterfully prepared by Chef José. He was also able to work in wonderful breakfast and dessert items to round out a complete menu, celebrating mom’s special day. While on the subject of popular choices…our signature fare, the Shadows Salad, seems to be the dish of choice for our frequent visitors. The combination of mixed greens, candied walnuts, dates, strawberries, dried cranberries, blue cheese, topped with chicken breast and sweet tarragon vinaigrette, is not only a healthy selection, but is cool and refreshing for the hot summer months. the iew Golf Operations BY RYAN STEMSRUD, PGA GENERAL MANAGER New Disability Flag Policy Beginning July 1, 2012, there will be a new procedure for obtaining disability flags for use on the golf course. The procedure was recommended by the Golf Staff and Golf Advisory Committee, and it was approved by the Sun City Shadow Hills Board of Directors at the April Board Meeting. The purpose of the procedure is to improve the conditions of the golf course, particularly around the putting surface and after overseeding in the fall. The new procedure is: Eligibility: • A Sun City Shadow Hills resident must present a current DMV-issued parking placard, or other government agency document, which notates a disability requiring accommodation; or • A Sun City Shadow Hills resident must present a current dated doctor’s note from a physician indicating the specific amount of accommodation necessary. A Sun City Shadow Hills resident will be provided a disability flag the first time if the resident is unaware of this rule; however, the resident will not receive a flag for future rounds until the above documentation is received by the Pro Shop staff. When presenting the documentation, the resident will be asked to sign a statement regarding use of the disability flag for the current season. Each year, every golfer will need to renew the disability flag permit. Thank you for your understanding as we seek to present the best playing conditions possible for all residents. Ryan Rules of Golf Rule 26-1/15 Procedures for Relief from Lateral Water Hazard In the diagram, a player has played a ball from the teeing ground (Point A) into the lateral water hazard at Point B. It last crossed the margin of the hazard at Point C. He may play the ball as it lies or, under penalty of one stroke: (a) play another ball from the teeing ground – Rule 26-1a; (b) drop a ball anywhere on the far side of the hazard on the dotted line from the hole through Point C, e.g., Point D – Rule 26-1b; (c) drop a ball in the shaded area on the near side of the hazard which is all ground within two club-lengths of Point C, but not nearer the hole than Point C – Rule 26-1c(i); or (d) drop a ball in the shaded area on the far side of the hazard which is all ground within two club-lengths of Point E, but not nearer the hole than Point E – Rule 26-1c(ii). The player may not drop a ball on the socalled “line-of-flight” at Point F or anywhere else on the line the ball followed from A to B, except in the shaded area on the near side.
