two acts, with music in the bel canto style. Set in a Swiss
village, where preparations are underway for the wedding
of Elvino and Amina, this story deals with jealousy, lies,
and a “village ghost” who haunts the town – who turns
out to be our innocent sleepwalker.
The Opera Club will be “dark” in July and August, and
will be meeting on the second Tuesday of each month
when we return. Our first meeting of the 2012/2013
season will be on Tuesday, September 4, 2012.
Paddle Tennis Club
We have a new chartered Paddle
Tennis Club in SCSH. Currently we play
every Sunday morning at 9 am on the
pickleball courts at the Santa Rosa Clubhouse.
As the club grows and we learn what our members
want, we will be adding more days to the schedule.
This is a great sport for tennis and table tennis players,
too; it is fun and gives us a good workout. It has the feel
of tennis, but it is played on a much smaller court. The
pickleball courts are shorter than the regulation paddle
tennis courts, but we are making it work for now.
We have asked the HOA Board to fence the sports
court at the Santa Rosa. In addition we need to add
striping for paddle tennis, possibly in a different color so
that it can still be used by pickleball and basketball
players. This, of course, costs money; and we have to see
what we can do to make it happen soon.
For more information, contact John at 714-743-9018.
Pairs 9-Hole Golf Club
We are the new Pairs 9-Hole Golf
Club. Our club’s mission is to share the
love of golf in a social, friendly way. We
will be playing on the North Course. We have a fun
lineup of games and events planned. Our club does not
require handicaps and is designed to provide golf for
those who wish to have a relaxed, fun game.
We encourage people to join by pairing up with a
friend, be it two singles or couples. The new Bistro in
Phase 3 is open, and we hope we will be able to get
together there for many events. Our summer playing
time will be at 7:30 am, and we will still be playing on
the second and fourth Thursday of the month, EXCEPT
FOR JUNE. We will be using a shotgun format.
Membership dues are $10 per person and are payable in
June or when you return to the Valley. The club year for
all chartered clubs begins on July 1.
All new and returning golfers to SCSH are welcome to
join. There will be a sign-up sheet in the Pro Shop. Please
sign up by 3 pm on the Tuesday before we play. Again,
our games will be at 2:30 pm on June 7 and 21. We are
changing our time due to the golf course aerification.
Please sign in by 7 am.
For new members, applications can be found in our
drawer at the Pro Shop on the South Course. Please put
the completed applications in our mailbox at the
Montecito Clubhouse or in our drawer at the Pro Shop.
For more information about our new Sun City
Shadows Hills club, please contact Vivian Chertok at
Pan
Let’s play Pan! Come join us in the
Capistrano room at the Montecito
Clubhouse Mondays at 6:30 pm and on
Thursdays at noon.
We welcome all new residents to come on by and say
hello; we would love to meet you. We have established
permanent games on Monday nights and are taking
names for regulars and fill-ins. Bring your house games
to the clubhouse and become part of the Pan Club. As
we get into summer, come on by and play with us as
some of the regulars will be gone during the hotter
months.
If you want to learn to play Pan, Beatrice Hersh will
be giving instructions to new players and she would love
to hear from you. Beatrice’s cell phone number is
818-438-8369.
For any other questions, please call President Thelma
Levine at 760-610-2964. See you at the tables!
