BY FRANCINE WALLACE GENERAL SALES MANAGER PULTEGROUP/DEL WEBB Before we unveiled our Living Well Collection of new model homes in January, I wrote a couple of articles talking about their innovative design. Turns out some of the features of our new homes made quite a splash not only with home buyers, but also with the news media. Especially the design feature we call the “retreat” and some media began calling the “snore room.” As you know if you have seen our new models, the retreat (or so-called “snore room”) is an extra room that is part of the master suite, separate from the master bedroom but connected to it through the master bath. Of course it is not only a sleeping space for someone who snores or needs to have the TV on all night; it is also a very convenient space for reading, relaxation, massage, exercise equipment, a hobby, or any other activity requiring a cozy, comfortable space. But the idea that it can also serve as a “snore room” really caught on with the media covering the new home industry. The following are just a couple of examples of the coverage. CBS in Los Angeles called the retreat/snore room “a revolutionary residential feature.” And said, “Del Webb offers prospective residents of its new Sun City Shadow Hills development a ‘master retreat’ feature, a secondary bedroom attached to the master suite through the bathroom.” the iew Our new Californian plan is approximately 2,656 square feet with three bedrooms, three baths, and popular design options. Our New Designs Make the News MSNBC.com contributor Jane Hodges wrote a long story on the subject, pointing out “Celebrities such as Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, and ‘Judge Judy’ Scheindlin and her husband reportedly have snore rooms in their homes.” She also said that Del Webb was a leader in addressing this issue through its innovative home designs. And she quoted our vice president of strategic marketing, Andy Wong, who said, “It’s not something for everybody. No one says, ‘I want another bedroom for my spouse.’ But many say they wind up sleeping separately by the end of the night, even though they start out in bed together.” The way we see it, when you live at a Del Webb community, where there is so much lifestyle to enjoy during the day, it is important to get a good night’s sleep. If we can help some of our buyers do that through innovative home design we are really happy to do so. And while our new designs got a lot great coverage, and it is nice to get attention from the media, ultimately our mission and our goal is to meet the needs and exceed the expectations of our home buyers.
