Juanita Flores
Since the opening of the new Santa Rosa
Clubhouse in October, we have seen, heard,
and experienced the growing pains of adding
such an enormous amenity. One person has
stepped up to the challenge and has been a
tremendous help creating consistency in both
the facility and the service that is provided there.
Juanita – who has over five years of experience
monitoring the Montecito Clubhouse, a fitness
center, and a pool area – has leveraged that
experience to bring the Santa Rosa online
with great success. Juanita brings a bright smile
and pleasant personality to her shift and has
delivered to all residents the knowledge they
need to fully utilize and enjoy their new
clubhouse. Juanita knows and understands
the operating procedures and rules, and she
applies them both equally and professionally
even in the most delicate of situations.
Congratulations, Juanita, on your dedication
to service and for making our residents the focus
of the service we provide. Your ability to make
others feel they are an important part of the
community is an invaluable asset. Thank you
for the work you do each and every day.
Design Review
BY JIM WIEBORG
New DRC Guidelines
All of you should have received your copies of the
proposed DRC Guidelines. Please take the time to review
the document and provide comments as you see fit. Once
approved, there is no going back to make changes, so now
is the time. This revision is a slow process that has taken
approximately three years to accomplish, so you will be
living with this document for a while.
Several times I have written about the importance of
staking new trees, how you must periodically check that the
support wires are loose enough that the trunk can move
when the wind blows, but one thing seems to be forgotten.
Eventually, you need to remove the stakes! When the
diameter of the tree reaches four to five inches, you should
be able to remove them safely. As the tree gets larger, the
diameter of the trunk increases more quickly; and we tend
to forget to loosen the support wires to prevent them from
cutting into the tree’s trunk. Eventually, the bark will grow
over the wire if it is not loosened or removed. This interferes
with the tree’s uptake of water and nutrients and its growth.
(Refer to Design Review Guidelines Section 6.1.1.)
Be sure to check your irrigation timing. With the high
temperatures and wind, you should have increased your
irrigation system’s run time. The best indicator is to check
your plants in the heat of the day to see if they are drooping
because they have not received enough water.
