STATEMENT OF CULTURAL VALUES<br />
The Doctoral Program is a community of scholars in<br />
which both students and faculty are encouraged to explore<br />
intellectual ideas, to express intellectual thoughts,<br />
to exhibit excitement about ideas, to develop intellectual<br />
skills, to criticize ideas, and to discover and explore<br />
core intellectual passions, in a caring environment free<br />
from personal attacks and personalized criticism.<br />

The purpose of the program is to develop leaders<br />
who have the vision, passion, and skill to contribute<br />
significantly to the development of their chosen field<br />
in a principled, compassionate, and caring way.<br />
The program is characterized by:<br />

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS<br />
—A completed application<br />
—A Master’s or higher degree from a regionally accredited<br />
college or university<br />
— Graduate GPA of at least 3.25 (A = 4.0)<br />
— Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores in all<br />
three areas: Verbal, Quantitative, and Analytical<br />
Writing; scores must be from a test date within five<br />
years preceding application.. [Scores of another<br />
similarly rigorous graduate entrance exam (e.g.,<br />
Graduate Management Admission Test, Law School<br />
Admission Test, Medical Comprehensive Admission<br />
Test) may be used in lieu of GRE scores with<br />
the approval of one’s specialization coordinator and<br />
the Doctoral Review Council.]<br />
— Three recent letters of professional recommendation<br />
for doctoral study<br />
— An interview with two faculty members and a writing<br />
sample generated on-site<br />
Students who have limited academic credentials in<br />
their chosen area of specialization may be asked to take<br />
Master’s level courses which will not be applied towards<br />
the doctoral degree prior to admission into the<br />
Ph.D. Program.<br />
A three-step admission process is used for screening<br />
applicants:<br />
1. A faculty member in the student’s area of specialization<br />
reviews the application materials for completeness.<br />
2. Once the application is complete, an interview with<br />
two faculty members is conducted.<br />
3. The Doctoral Review Council approves or disapproves<br />
the application and makes its recommendations<br />
to the Dean.
