Students are not required to select a specialization.<br />

Those who do not may choose any three graduate specialization<br />

courses, for which they have met the prerequisites,<br />

and earn a General MBA.<br />

DUAL DEGREE PROGRAMS<br />

The M.B.A. is offered in conjunction with the following<br />

programs: Doctor of Podiatric Medicine, Master<br />

of Science in Human Resource Development, Master<br />

of Science in Nursing, and Master of Science in Sports<br />

Management. Those interested should see the pertinent<br />

sections of this Catalog under the School of Graduate<br />

Medical Sciences, the Adrian Dominican School of Education,<br />

the School of Nursing, and the School of Human<br />

Performance and Leisure Sciences, respectively.<br />

All students pursuing dual degree programs must be<br />

admitted to the School of Business, in accordance with<br />

our normal admission procedures and requirements, and<br />

all prerequisite requirements will apply.<br />

GRADUATE CERTIFICATE PROGRAM<br />

For students who hold M.B.A. degrees but wish to<br />

undertake advanced study in a new business discipline,<br />

the Andreas School of Business offers postgraduate<br />

certificate programs in Finance, Health Services Administration,<br />

International Business, Management,<br />

Management Information Systems, and Marketing. To<br />

obtain the certificate, students must complete three 600level<br />

courses within the chosen concentration with a<br />

cumulative GPA of 3.00.<br />

MASTER OF SCIENCE IN<br />

ACCOUNTING<br />

The Master of Science in Accounting (MSA) program<br />

is designed to prepare students to become successful<br />

accounting professionals with a global<br />

orientation and a strong sense of ethics and social responsibility.<br />

The faculty demonstrate a strong commitment<br />

to deliver a high-quality educational experience<br />

by embedding contemporary recommendations from<br />

well-respected academic and practitioner organizations<br />

into the curriculum. The course work is structured to<br />

achieve the assurance of learning goals prescribed by<br />

AACSB International – the Association to Advance<br />

Collegiate Schools of Business, to develop the necessary<br />

core competencies for entry into the accounting<br />

profession endorsed by AICPA – the American Institute<br />

of Certified Public Accountants, and to acquire the<br />

relevant knowledge, skills and abilities specified by<br />

IMA – The Institute of Management Accountants.<br />

The MSA program provides the necessary preparation<br />

to be eligible to sit for the following professional<br />

license or certification examinations:<br />

1. Certified Public Accountant (CPA)<br />

2. Certification in Financial Management (CFM)<br />

3. Certification in Management Accounting (CMA)<br />

The combination of the Bachelor of Science in Accounting<br />

and the Master of Science in Accounting from<br />

<strong>Barry</strong> <strong>University</strong> meets both the requirements of the<br />

State of Florida to sit for the Certified Public<br />

Accountant’s exam and the Institute of Management<br />

Accounting to sit for the CFM and CMA exams. The<br />

CPA track enables students to pursue rewarding careers<br />

in assurance services (auditing) and taxation, while the<br />

CFM and CMA tracks prepare students for important<br />

financial and management accounting positions within<br />

business, government, and not-for-profit entities.
