6. Students receive academic and social/emotional interventions
Differentiated support will take place at a school-wide level. Our Response to Interventions process
will ensure students are regularly assessed, and that assessment data is analyzed regularly.
Students who need additional support beyond the general education classroom are provided
research-based, high-quality interventions, and the effectiveness of all support is evaluated using
data. This ensures children do not "fall through the cracks."
Lazear Charter Academy will also utilize EFC's Response to Intervention model for both academic
and social emotional interventions. Academic interventions will include classroom-based intervention
and more intensive intervention (which may occur outside the classroom) using programs like
Language!. Lazear Charter Academy recognizes that our students are growing up in neighborhoods
with numerous community stressors. In order to provide students with social/emotional support,
Lazear Charter Academy will collaborate with Seneca Center to provide students with counseling at
the school site.
7. The after-school program extends student learning
Lazear Charter Academy will provide a comprehensive after-school program that provides both
students and families social, recreational , and educational opportunities. The after-school program
will provide an opportunity to extend learning, ideally with enrichment activities in the arts, music,
sports, tutoring/ homework support, and a Spanish language academy. The afterschool program
provides valuable opportunities to engage, inspire and support struggling students and families . The
program creates a safe and supportive space for ch ildren during after-school hours.
8. Professional development and collaboration drives instructional improvement.
The goal of EFC is to create powerful, collaborative learning communities where high quality
instruction in every classroom is the ultimate goal. Enriching teacher content knowledge, building
strong professional learning communities, and developing teacher inquiry practices drive instructional
improvement. Through a practice-based professional development model, content knowledge
development, data analysis, coaching, cognitive planning, and grade level planning , teachers deepen
their knowledge of instructional designs, and continually work toward improving their instruction and
outcomes for students.
