Curriculum<br />

The adopted curricula for EFC are Open Court Reading and Saxon Math. Each grade level teaches<br />

grade level standards. Teachers will discuss these curricula and standards in greater depth at Back<br />

to <strong>School</strong> Night and at grade level parent meetings. As we continue to make advances in the<br />

proficiency level of our students we will begin to infuse more Social Sciences, Science, and Art into<br />

our program. Science is currently taught as a prep-release class in grades 1-5. This year EFC is<br />

rolling out its Social Science curriculum.<br />

Homework<br />

The EFC policy for homework varies by grade level as follows:<br />

Kinder: 20-35 minutes nightly 1st Grade: 35-50 minutes nightly<br />

znd & 3rd Grades: 45-60 minutes nightly 4th and 5th grades: 85-90 minutes nightly<br />

This is a guideline and may vary by a few minutes from day to day. For a more detailed description<br />

of homework, please contact your child's teacher.<br />

After <strong>School</strong> Enrichment and Intervention<br />

This year, Cox students will have the opportunity to participate in after-school enrichment and<br />

intervention classes. Contact your child's teacher or office staff with any questions about these<br />

programs.<br />

PARENT/COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT<br />

Volunteers<br />

Volunteer help and support makes all the difference in broadening the spectrum of activities each<br />

year. Parents, grandparents, and friends are involved in many ways at Cox <strong>Academy</strong>. They help in<br />

various capacities throughout the school. They also chaperone study trips and help students with<br />

special activities. Please contact the classroom teacher or the office if you would like to support<br />

the school program by volunteering, and we will assist you in completing the necessary paper work.<br />

Please be aware that there are requirements for fingerprinting and TB clearance for school<br />

volunteers.<br />

Parent Committees<br />

Parent Leadership Council (PLC): Cox <strong>Academy</strong> is always searching for more efficient and<br />

effective venues for parents and teachers to collaborate and work together to meet the needs of<br />

the students. Parent Leadership Council meetings are a very important way for parents to provide
