Curriculum
The adopted curricula for EFC are Open Court Reading and Saxon Math. Each grade level teaches
grade level standards. Teachers will discuss these curricula and standards in greater depth at Back
to School Night and at grade level parent meetings. As we continue to make advances in the
proficiency level of our students we will begin to infuse more Social Sciences, Science, and Art into
our program. Science is currently taught as a prep-release class in grades 1-5. This year EFC is
rolling out its Social Science curriculum.
Homework
The EFC policy for homework varies by grade level as follows:
Kinder: 20-35 minutes nightly 1st Grade: 35-50 minutes nightly
znd & 3rd Grades: 45-60 minutes nightly 4th and 5th grades: 85-90 minutes nightly
This is a guideline and may vary by a few minutes from day to day. For a more detailed description
of homework, please contact your child's teacher.
After School Enrichment and Intervention
This year, Cox students will have the opportunity to participate in after-school enrichment and
intervention classes. Contact your child's teacher or office staff with any questions about these
programs.
PARENT/COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
Volunteers
Volunteer help and support makes all the difference in broadening the spectrum of activities each
year. Parents, grandparents, and friends are involved in many ways at Cox Academy. They help in
various capacities throughout the school. They also chaperone study trips and help students with
special activities. Please contact the classroom teacher or the office if you would like to support
the school program by volunteering, and we will assist you in completing the necessary paper work.
Please be aware that there are requirements for fingerprinting and TB clearance for school
volunteers.
Parent Committees
Parent Leadership Council (PLC): Cox Academy is always searching for more efficient and
effective venues for parents and teachers to collaborate and work together to meet the needs of
