MANAGEMENT SECTION - SAFETY OFFICER
Primary Tasks
0 Monitor all response operations to ensure the safety of staff, students and others on
campus
0 Stop any response activity that would create an unsafe situation or put anyone at
risk
Start-Up Actions
0 Check-in at ICP
0 Put on personal safety equipment
0 Read position description
0 Meet with Incident Commander, Management Staff and Unit Leaders
Operational Duties
0 Maintain incident records and track response activities
0 Document all incoming messages, all actions taken, all decisions made (and the
justification for them), and requests being filled on the Position Activity Log
0 Monitor emergency response activities for safe practices
0 Identify and mitigate on-site hazards and unsafe situations whenever possible
0 Stop or modify any unsafe activities/operations
0 Ensure that school response units are using appropriate safety equipment
0 Anticipate situation/problems before they occur
0 Consider probable situation changes (aftershocks, etc.) and how they will affect
response activities
0 Work with Maintenance/Fire/Site Security Team Leader to determine if buildings are
safe to search
