Education for Change Board of Directors<br />

Brian Rogers Board Chair<br />

Brian Rogers is currently the Executive Director of the Rogers Family Foundation, a philanthropic<br />

organization committed to improving student outcomes and creating educational systematic change in<br />

<strong>Oakland</strong>, CA. Under Brian's leadership, the Rogers Family Foundation has been the philanthropic leader<br />

of educational reform in the city of <strong>Oakland</strong> over the past seven years. Previous to his work at the Rogers<br />

Family Foundation, Brian was the Manager of the Lair of the Bear- Camp Gold, a family summer camp<br />

operated by the University of California at Berkeley Alumni Association. Other work experience includes<br />

being the managing partner of 7171 Co., a home development business, as well as teaching English and<br />

coaching tennis at Bishop O' Dowd High <strong>School</strong>, his alma mater. Brian is a graduate of the University of<br />

California at Berkeley (Haas B.S. 1995) and an avid fan of the Golden Bears. Brian lives in Orinda with<br />

his wife of six years, Katie, his two year old son, James, and his seven month old daughter, Brynn.<br />

Mark Patel Board Treasurer<br />

Mark Patel is the Vice President of Strategy at Amyris, an Emeryville-based biotechnology company.<br />

Mark was previously a partner with McKinsey & Company in San Francisco, an international<br />

Management Consulting company. Mark spent almost 9 years with McKinsey and Company in both the<br />

UK and US, most recently as a leader in Semiconductor and Operations practices. In his role at<br />

McKinsey. Mark advised senior management of leading organizations on both strategic and fmancial<br />

planning and led efforts to improve operations in both corporate and non profit organizations. Mark also<br />

has prior work experience with Goldman Sachs and the Ford Motor Company. Mark previously<br />

volunteered with the I Have a Dream program within East Palo Alto <strong>School</strong> <strong>District</strong> and served as an<br />

advisor in StartUp! an East Palo Alto organization affiliated with Stanford University and aimed at<br />

supporting young entrepreneurs in the area. Mark is a graduate of Cambridge University in the UK (BA,<br />

MEng '98) and of Stanford Graduate <strong>School</strong> of Business (MBA '03). Mark lives in Berkeley with his<br />

wife Sruti, who is a practicing pediatric physician in <strong>Oakland</strong>.<br />

Jessica Lind/ Board Vice Chair<br />

Jessica Lind! joined Scientific Learning as Vice President of Marketing in March 2007 and was promoted<br />

to Senior Vice President in January 2009. Prior to joining Scientific Learning, Ms. Lind! served as Vice<br />

President of Marketing and Product Management for Riverdeep, a leading developer of educational<br />

software. Ms. Lind I held marketing management positions of increasing responsibility at Riverdeep and<br />

The Learning Company, which was acquired by Riverdeep, from 2001 through 2006. Ms. Lind) began her<br />

career in sales and sales management for AT&T. Ms. Lind I holds a bachelor' s degree in economics and<br />

international studies from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and an MBA from the Haas <strong>School</strong> of<br />

Business at the University of California, Berkeley.<br />

Antonio Cediel, Ed.D. Board Secretary<br />

Dr. Cedie1 has been an urban public school educator since 1994. During that time, he has served as a<br />

middle school teacher, charter school administrator, high school principal, and as a deputy superintendent<br />

of schools. Currently, he works as an independent consultant and coaches school and district leaders in
