3 THE VISION Gold-headed Apollo greets them: the red-haired chieftain and the eyeless crone. He stops them at the very gates of Olympus. Tros sees the blinding presence, the cracked-voice Sibyl intoning the words of the god appointed ambassador of Zeus. “<strong>The</strong> King of Olympus asks me to say this to honored Tros, future king, father of the favored cup-bearer Ganymede: A gift of two splendid horses I send you. Know that your son still lives, immortal and loved among the gods.”

It will hang on the wall of your first stone house, in the hall of your first imposing palace. Your men shall take the skin and teeth and claws of the lesser wolves, and make of them their sign and war-dress. Wear them in battle when you invade the town of Ilion. You’ll be its king in a decade, no longer a chief of wandering shepherds. Seek and drive out the human wolves who clog its alleys and marketplace. Restore the temples and their stolen treasures.
