Beach Discovery Walks
with the Tybee Island
Marine Science Center
Mondays & Thursdays at 12
pm, Saturdays & Sundays at
3:30 pm through May.
Marine educators lead onehour
guided Discovery
Walks on Tybee Beach. All
ages are welcome to join in
for shoreline discoveries.
Learn about shells, sand
dunes, geology, tides, and
beach inhabitants of a
barrier island. Participants
will sift the wet sand to find
creatures that live beneath
their feet and pull a seine net
(weather dependent) to see
what lives in the surf.
Marsh Discovery Walks
with the Tybee Island
Marine Science Center
Fridays at 2:30 pm through
May 2007. Explore the tidal
marsh on a Discovery Walk
with a marine educator. Hike
through the remnants of a
maritime forest that was
once the ancient coastlines
of dunes and beach. Visit a
marsh “garden” of sharp
needle rush, oxeye daisy,
smooth cord grass, live
oaks, Spanish moss, and
Cabbage palms. Walk on a
“salt pan,” taste sea pickles,
watch herds of fiddler crabs
move across the marsh mud.
These walks are $7 for
adults, $6 for children 3 to 16
yrs. TIMSC Members are
FREE. (Fee includes
admission to the Center)
The walks are limited;
therefore advanced
registration and payment
are requested. A full refund
will be provided if the Center
cancels due to inclement
weather. Pre-registered
participants must cancel
within 48 hours to receive a
