Marine educators lead onehour<br />

guided Discovery<br />

Walks on <strong>Tybee</strong> Beach. All<br />

ages are welcome to join in<br />

for shoreline discoveries.<br />

Learn about shells, sand<br />

dunes, geology, tides, and<br />

beach inhabitants of a<br />

barrier island. Participants<br />

will sift the wet sand to find<br />

creatures that live beneath<br />

their feet and pull a seine net<br />

(weather dependent) to see<br />

what lives in the surf.<br />

Marsh Discovery Walks<br />

with the <strong>Tybee</strong> Island<br />

Marine Science Center<br />

Fridays at 2:30 pm through<br />

May 2007. Explore the tidal<br />

marsh on a Discovery Walk<br />

with a marine educator. Hike<br />

through the remnants of a<br />

maritime forest that was<br />

once the ancient coastlines<br />

of dunes and beach. Visit a<br />

marsh “garden” of sharp<br />

needle rush, oxeye daisy,<br />

smooth cord grass, live<br />

oaks, Spanish moss, and<br />

Cabbage palms. Walk on a<br />

“salt pan,” taste sea pickles,<br />

watch herds of fiddler crabs<br />

move across the marsh mud.<br />

These walks are $7 for<br />

adults, $6 for children 3 to 16<br />

yrs. TIMSC Members are<br />

FREE. (Fee includes<br />

admission to the Center)<br />

The walks are limited;<br />

therefore advanced<br />

registration and payment<br />

are requested. A full refund<br />

will be provided if the Center<br />

cancels due to inclement<br />

weather. Pre-registered<br />

participants must cancel<br />

within 48 hours to receive a<br />
