Determine the value of “t” in the cross section of a curved beam as<br />

shown in fig such that the normal stress due to bending at the extreme<br />

fibers are numerically equal.<br />

Given data;<br />

Inner radius ri=150mm =150mm<br />

Outer radius ro=150+40+100<br />

=150+40+100<br />

=290mm<br />

Solution;<br />

From Figure Ci + CO = 40 + 100<br />

= 140mm…………… (1)<br />

Since the normal stresses due to bending at<br />

the extreme fiber are numerically equal we<br />

have,<br />
