As the “tourism season”
expanded, so did Blowing
Rock’s lifestyle. Instead of
boarded up store fronts and
sidewalks that were rolled up
by Labor Day, more and more
of the businesses stayed open
year-round. With the area
becoming a primary destination
with year-round recreation and
vacation facilities, it wasn’t long
before the village expanded with
new businesses and services.
Joining the landscape and
attractions was a rich inventory
of cultural resources, from
masterpieces in art to world premieres in theatre, and from
New York Times Best Selling authors to training facilities for
world class athletes.
Across the nation the theme most heard among vacationers is
“heritage tourism”– identifying historic and cultural resources that
expose the traveler to the rich culture that is our heritage. While
most resort destinations can offer private recreational facilities,
beaches and other amenities, how many vacation destinations can
offer the historical attractions that have been enhanced for the
visitor experience– all in the
immediate Blowing Rock
