As the “tourism season”<br />
expanded, so did <strong>Blowing</strong><br />
<strong>Rock</strong>’s lifestyle. Instead <strong>of</strong><br />
boarded up store fronts and<br />
sidewalks that were rolled up<br />
by Labor Day, more and more<br />
<strong>of</strong> the businesses stayed open<br />
year-round. With the area<br />
becoming a primary destination<br />
with year-round recreation and<br />
vacation facilities, it wasn’t long<br />
before the village expanded with<br />
new businesses and services.<br />
Joining the landscape and<br />
attractions was a rich inventory<br />
<strong>of</strong> cultural resources, from<br />
masterpieces in art to world premieres in theatre, and from<br />
New York Times Best Selling authors to training facilities for<br />
world class athletes.<br />
Across the nation the theme most heard among vacationers is<br />
“heritage tourism”– identifying historic and cultural resources that<br />
expose the traveler to the rich culture that is our heritage. While<br />
most resort destinations can <strong>of</strong>fer private recreational facilities,<br />
beaches and other amenities, how many vacation destinations can<br />
<strong>of</strong>fer the historical attractions that have been enhanced for the<br />
visitor experience– all in the<br />
immediate <strong>Blowing</strong> <strong>Rock</strong><br />
