New Hours<br />

* Starting <strong>October</strong> 24, our open hours for<br />

Wednesdays will be <strong>10</strong> am – 2 pm. Parents & Tots<br />

story time will take place in the mornings. If adults<br />

have any ideas as to any programming they would like<br />

to see happen in the afternoon, let us know. Perhaps<br />

this could be a c<strong>of</strong>fee and chat time, a basic computer<br />

learning time……Let us know what you would like to<br />

see; you can come down for a chat, call us at 994-<br />

2684, or email ideas to the library at<br />

Thank you to Yukon Public Libraries and the Canada<br />

Council for sponsoring storyteller/author Laurel<br />

Gugler. On September 27, as an Artist-in-the-<br />

Classroom, she entertained Del Van Gorder School<br />

classes as well as some members <strong>of</strong> the public. Thank<br />

you to those who came out for this very enjoyable<br />

event.<br />

Yukon Library Week<br />

<strong>October</strong> 14-20<br />

We are fine-free for this week. If you have<br />

overdue books, this is the week to bring them in<br />

to avoid any fines.<br />

Enter your name for prizes. <strong>The</strong>re will be prizes<br />

drawn throughout the week.<br />

Wednesday, <strong>October</strong> 17<br />

7:00 p.m. – Brainstorm ideas for a library<br />

group: would you like to be part <strong>of</strong> a book<br />

discussion group, craft club, learn basic<br />

computer skills…do you have any other ideas.<br />

Thursday, <strong>October</strong> 18<br />

7:00 p.m. – come down for c<strong>of</strong>fee, cake, and<br />

munchies. <strong>The</strong> radio will be on, and we will<br />

be listening for election results. <strong>The</strong> library<br />

will remain open until at least 9:00 p.m.!<br />

Friday, <strong>October</strong> 19<br />

6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. – come out for an<br />

evening <strong>of</strong> board games: cribbage,<br />

checkers, chess, Yahtzee, etc.<br />

New Books<br />

<strong>The</strong>re are many new titles at the library; here is a<br />

sampling:<br />

<strong>The</strong> Sentimentalists – by Johann Skibsrud.<br />

Ms. Skibsrud won the 20<strong>10</strong> Scotiabank Giller Prize<br />

honouring the best in Canadian literature for this<br />

novel. <strong>The</strong> book connects the flooding <strong>of</strong> an<br />

Ontario town, the Vietnam War, a trailer in North<br />

Dakota, and an unfinished boat in Maine.<br />

Skin Hunger: A Resurrection <strong>of</strong> Magic, Book One<br />

– by Kathleen Duey<br />

This 2007 National Book Award Finalist for Young<br />

People’s Literature is the first book in a dark,<br />

complex, and compelling trilogy.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Iliad – by Homer and <strong>The</strong> Complete Novels –<br />

by George Orwell<br />

If you are looking to read some <strong>of</strong> the classics,<br />

these two titles just arrived.
