walnut-brown to V<strong>and</strong>yke brown, firm, cavities. tiny at first, be-<br />

coming larger with age (even splitting into very large hollows<br />

because of scissile septa); septa. hyaline, of large gelified<br />

parallel'hyphae, scissile with large openings at the angles,<br />

10-20 A thiki basidia narrowly clavate, 10-14 x 4-5 p, 4-spored;<br />

spores ellipsoid, ovoid or obovoid, smooth to very finely ver-<br />

rucose, 4- to 5-angled in cross-section, 10-14 x 5-7.5 Jp, light<br />

yellowish-brown sub lente.<br />

Under leaves or on the ground under Alnus, Eucalyptus, <strong>and</strong><br />

Faggus. Oregon, California, Australia, <strong>and</strong> New Zeal<strong>and</strong>. No-<br />
