Fructifications small, 1-1.5 cm. in diameter, subglobose, not<br />

shrinking much on drying, surface white at first, drying cinnamon-buff<br />

to snuff-brown, whitish-villous to innate-fibrillose;<br />

storile base scarcely visible; peridium 185 ,I thick, densely<br />

stupose; gleba gray, soon becoming dark, drying bister; septa<br />

of thin-walled hyphae, 30-40 fA thick; basidia long, cylindric,<br />

2-spored, sterigmata stout, 11-13 fA long; paraphyses slender,<br />

septate; spores ellipsoid, distal end obtuse <strong>and</strong> rounded, undulating<br />

surface with a clear wrinkled utricle, brown becoming<br />

black, 20-25 x 11-13 u, pedicel 2-3 ju long, 3-4 pt in diameter.<br />

Odor of Convallaria majaltis.<br />

Under Populus, Quercus, <strong>and</strong> Fagus. Italy, Oregon, <strong>and</strong><br />

Argentina.<br />

thick, of large-celled psieudoparenchyma., with a very few superficial<br />

large-celled, multi-septate hyphae; gleba white or brown<br />

when fresh, turning bluish-green when cut, drying light chalcedony<br />

with flecks of darker green or fuscous-black; septa<br />
