2-spored, extending slightly above the pa-raphyses, brownish;.<br />

spores citriform, with long, blunt, hyaline apiculus, <strong>and</strong><br />

wrinkled exospore, golden-yellow to dark red-brown, usually<br />

appendiculate, 27-29 x 11-13,p.<br />

In calcareous earth under Faguqs <strong>and</strong> Quercus. Hessen-Nas-<br />

sau, Germany. August to October.<br />

47. HYMENOGASTER Parksui Zeller & Dodge, sp. nov.<br />

Fructificationes spongiosae, laeves, subsphericae, 0.5-1.5 cm. diametro metientes,<br />

sordide albidae vel griseae, "cinnamon buff" vel "clay color " siccatae; peridium<br />

35-75 , crassitudine, byssoideum, stuposum, facile laceratum; gleba grisea, "Natal<br />

brown" siccata; septa 18-25 A erassitudine, stuposum, compactum; basidia 4-spora,<br />

cylindrica; sporae maturae nigerrimae, verrucosae, obovoideae vel late ellipsoideo-<br />

citriformes, 18.5-26 x 12.2-17 /, sporae immaturae laeves, flavae ut in H. citrino<br />

aut in H. Bulliardi, 22-24 x 11-14 /A, apiculatae pedicellataeque.<br />

Type: in Univ. Cal., Dodge, <strong>and</strong> Zeller Herbaria.<br />

Fructifications soft, spongy, smooth, subspherical, 0.5-<br />

1.5 cm. in diameter, dirty white to gray, becoming cinnamon-<br />

buff to clay-color on drying; peridium 35-75 ,u thick, cottony-<br />

stupose, hyaline, easily torn; gleba grayish, drying Natal<br />

brown, cavities first developing above; septa 18-25 /, thick,<br />

coarse-stupose, compact; basidia. 4-spored, cylindrical; spores<br />

very dark, verrucose at maturity, obovoid- or broadly ellipsoid-<br />

citriform, young spores smooth, clear yellowish, <strong>and</strong> resem-<br />

bling H. citrinus when narrow or H. Bulliardi when broad, ma-<br />

ture spores 18.5-26 x 12.2-17 tf young spores 22-24 x 11-14 ,,<br />

apiculate <strong>and</strong> pedicellate.<br />

Scattered just under leaves <strong>and</strong> through the soil about 5 cm.<br />

deep under Quercus <strong>and</strong> Heteromeles arbutifolia. California.<br />

November to April.<br />
